What You Do
In this role, you get to execute scientific or engineering research generating new knowledge and innovative technologies in automotive robotic manufacturing systems. This will include architecting, developing, validating, and implementing novel mechatronic devices and systems with advanced sensing, perception and robotics for integrated automation solutions in industrial applications such as material handling, flexible gripping, joining, assembly, and reconfigurable manufacturing systems.
Who You Are

Generate ideas and submit records of invention

Ability to develop new methodologies as warranted by research needs

Development of math models and simulation to support research and to facilitate technology implementation

Collaborate with and/or lead internal/external global technical teams and execute technical assignments independently

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility

Be a GM ambassador in the technical community

Detailed understanding and in depth knowledge of scientific principles and state of the art research methodologies related to:

Mobile, serial, and parallel kinematic robots

Sensing and perception systems

Mechanical and electrical component design

Design of precision actuation devices

Flexible/Reconfigurable manufacturing systems

Additional Description
What You Need
-
Advanced Degree with a focus in Electrical/Computer/Systems/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering; or Applied Mathematics/Physics AND
-
10+ years extensive industrial research/development experience will be considered

Advanced training in robotics, automatic controls, mechatronics, and problem solving
-
Willingness and ability to travel for troubleshooting or technology implementation in plants
-
Strong ability and desire to conduct independent research

Technical skills with high level of analytical and experimental ability

Outstanding sociability skills
-
Demonstrated project management skills, especially for projects with high technical risk
-
Ability to adapt to changing research focus and work optimally on varying projects

Inclusive behavior in collaboration with a broad spectrum of colleagues

Ability to look ahead coupled with a strong desire and initiative to learn and master new skills
What Would Be Even Better

PhD degree from top-tier research institutions in science/engineering fields

10+ years relevant industry experience

Postdoc Experience

Hands-on experience running and programming robotic applications

Fanuc programming experience

PLC programming experience

Ability to build and run math models and/or simulations of robotic, automated, or mechatronic systems (e.g. CAD, FEA, Roboguide, etc.) in order to plan research activities
