As Staff Software Engineer in the Delivery Intelligence Group, you will be a driving force in developing software systems that unlock BrightDrop's ecosystem of last-mile delivery vehicles for customers. You will lead engineering of the core meso-scale agent-based simulation environment that BrightDrop uses to develop and demonstrate algorithms to control and optimize goods delivery. The simulator is a flexible, high-performance, reactive engine inspired by the latest in gaming technology, capable of simultaneous two-way communication with human users, internal & external APIs, and internally developed AI controllers. You will work with data engineering to develop data pipelines based on simulation that unlock optimization and AI learning at scale.

  • Lead development of a high-performance transportation mobility simulation engine

  • Provide technical leadership to the core team of developers working on the engine and related products and systems

  • Build data and processing pipelines to support rapid and flexible deployment of the simulation engine for internal and external customers

  • Ensure system availability, integrity and consistency in order to deliver both real-time visibility and deep analytics applied over batch runs of the engine

  • Work with the Product team to define and innovate deploying multi-modal, electrified goods delivery systems

  • Engage with cross functional teams to find opportunities to create unique competitive data driven products

Additional Description



  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or related quantitative field  

  • 5+ years of industry experience developing and deploying software in transportation mobility systems, gaming, scientific simulation, product R&D, or related field

  • Track record developing innovating software solutions to solve complex simulation, gaming, IoT, optimization, or mathematical modeling problems at scale

  • Deep experience with Object-Oriented Programming

  • Experience working in teams using agile software development methodologies together with distributed version control systems (e.g., git).


  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams

  • Experience integrating simulation systems with distributed, data-intensive processing or analytics applications 

  • Experience with functional programming on the JVM (e.g., Scala)

  • Domain knowledge in transportation and energy systems, graph algorithms, convex optimization, and/or reinforcement learning. 


  • Self-driven with a passion for transportation decarbonization

  • Experience with Entity, Component, Systems (ECS) architectures

  • Adherence to clean code principles
