External - Supply Chain Resiliency Project Leader - Semiconductor

You will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. Responsible for actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and collaborate with suppliers or internal partners. The work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and independent judgment.

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.


  • Collaborate across Purchasing and Supply Chain teams as well as with Engineering and supplier partners (tier1 and semiconductor)
  • Investigate current and identify potential future semiconductor supply constraints across tiered supply chains. Determine alternative and/or reallocation solutions
  • Proactively assess potential sub-tier semiconductor supply chain risks. Identify and implement solutions to enable increased resiliency.
  • Support/lead projects that mitigate risk and strengthen tiered semiconductor supply chains
  • Lead activities across Purchasing organization and related team members to confirm supply plan for every semiconductor
  • Prioritize relationships and positive collaboration with tiered suppliers while getting results.

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of purchasing and/or supply chain experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or related experience.
  • Proven track record to lead multidisciplinary project teams to effectively lead complex projects
  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be complex
  • Strong communication skills including ability to coordinate and complete leadership presentations
  • Ability to prioritize, balance multiple projects simultaneously, and meet expedited deadlines
  • Self-starter. Ability to work independently and self-directed.
  • Demonstrated competence in negotiating skills
  • Dealing with Ambiguity
  • Strong eye for business
  • Managerial courage

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven supply chain crisis management support
  • Automotive strategic commodity purchasing experience
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis (5% or less) including international travel

The determination by HR and the Hiring Manager as to whether an offer will be lateral or promotional will be based on a candidate’s relevant experience as well as whether the role will amount to a significant increase in level of responsibility.
