The Role

This Operational Safety Engineer will be the primary point of contact for operational safety and human-machine interaction safety discussions and decisions for multiple stand-alone and integrated first and last mile non-vehicle transportation and delivery products and devices. The position requires providing timely execution of our System Safety process, including the development of requirements and analysis, as well as support to integration and validation activities. We are looking for innovative, highly energetic, technically inclined people who have strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply safety risk analysis techniques to understand and assess potential hazards related to various product operational scenarios, as well as user interactions, including foreseeable misuse, abuse and unintended use

  • Execute risk management and communicate potential safety concerns to engineering product teams

  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy a safety strategy that balances product availability and performance

  • Support design for operational and user interaction safety and risk control initiatives

  • Support definition of the validation and verification plan for operational and user interaction safety requirements that evaluates end-to-end product implementation

  • Support the development of processes, procedures, and training as part of risk mitigation for safe product operation

  • Perform research to help define qualitative and quantitative criteria for operational and user interaction safety

  • Analyze safety-related data from testing and customer usage to support data-driven recommendations for product safety metrics, requirements and improvements

  • Travel as needed (10-20% max)

Additional Description

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering preferred

  • 3+ years of engineering experience and execution of responsibilities related to areas such as operational safety, human-machine interactions and/or field investigations

  • Ability to understand multiple end-to-end product safety aspects, including functional and physical safety

  • Ability to simultaneously balance/support numerous projects with competing priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience performing safety analysis on safety-related systems

  • Demonstrated experience of with operational safety aspects, including hands-on execution of safety requirement development and risk analysis techniques

  • Previous proven engineering experience in areas such as:

    • Control systems

    • External product controllers

    • Scenario simulation

    • Software development

    • Transportation, delivery and logistics

  • Familiarity with transportation and/or OSHA safety standards and regulations

The expected base compensation for this role is: (90,223 - 144,123 USD Annual). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
