As a portfolio manager of the real estate and alternative investments, you will focus on oversight of the existing separate account and fund investments, underwriting of direct investment opportunities, including acquisition, disposition and recapitalizations and shaping the investment strategy of private real estate and alternatives portfolios of multiple GM pension plans.  A successful candidate will be passionate about pension asset management, a strategic thinker, inclusive and capable leader able to cultivate relationships within the organization and with third party managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the overall portfolio management of the real estate and alternative investments as well as hiring, overseeing and termination of third-party managers with the goal of generating excess returns within the acceptable risk tolerance

  • Actively lead and contribute to portfolio construction, investment opportunities analysis, monitoring existing positions, managing external relationships, etc.

  • Analyze risk and return profiles of investment opportunities and prepare and present investment recommendations to relevant senior management in accordance with internal policies and procedures

  • Conduct thorough diligence of all relevant information related to specific transactions and managers

  • For approved investments, lead efforts to ensure smooth execution including coordination between relevant cross-functional teams

  • Develop relationships with potential investment managers and strategic partners to enhance transaction sourcing

  • Oversee and assess manager and asset performance, including review and analysis of investment valuations, financial statements, performance reports, annual budgets and manager compliance with policy and investment guidelines

  • Prepare and present materials to GMAM leadership on a range of topics, including private markets performance and strategy review, asset mix and asset/liability considerations, relative value strategies

Additional Description

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 - 7 years of investment management experience, including 4+ years’ experience in private real estate and/or private equity

  • Demonstrable experience with various investment management work streams including negotiations, financial analysis, leading due diligence and managing manager relationships, among others

  • Generalist mindset with strong analytical skills and ability to make thoughtful investment decisions in an efficient and responsible manner, comfort in dealing with ambiguity

  • Strong understanding of asset liability management framework and pensions asset portfolio construction

  • Master of Business Administration degree and/or CFA strongly preferred

  • Highly motivated, results driven, and organized professional who can work collaboratively in teams and lead projects autonomously

  • Strong quantitative skillset

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to succinctly synthesize data, develop recommendations, and create and present materials

  • Strong organizational and project management skills & ability to meet changing priorities and deadlines

Work location: Hybrid - the responsibilities of this position can be accomplished through a combination of in-office and offsite, away from primary work location in New York City.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what the median compensation for a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with New York and Colorado law. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of Colorado or New York.

  • The median level of salary compensation for this role is $139,500.00

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
