Description of the team at General Motors:
Our Mainframe COE Development team supports the ongoing Mainframe Transformation program modernizing the GM mainframe application landscape and providing a horizontal shared application support and development service to the GM business. The work provides an exciting opportunity to work in a past faced environment utilising a modern development toolkit with the introduction of Dev Ops tools and practices for the GM Mainframe. Team members will work with diverse business units right across General Motors.
About the Software Developer Role:
This is a Level 5 role and the Software Developer will be in addition to an existing team of Senior Developers responsible for the ongoing upgrade and migration of applications to the parallel sysplex in conjunction with the implementation of a new development toolkit to support GM Mainframe future needs. The role will include analysis, design, programming, unit/integration testing, deployment, code debugging and job scheduling.
This developer will work in a highly collaborative and increasingly Agile environment and will assume a key role in modernizing the GM Mainframe landscape. This is a role that would suit someone with solid mainframe skills, who is a strong team player with a positive, confident attitude and an eagerness to learn new skills and practices.
Communicate effectively with a positive attitude

Design and develop quality code in a timely manner
Estimate, and design small increments of work
Perform root cause analysis and quick prototypes
Report status of assigned software development and/or maintenance tasks consistently following the specified software development methodology
Promote improvements in mainframe software engineering practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery pipelines
Prospective candidates will need creativity, decision-making skills, a drive for results, the ability to develop peer relationships, a strong technical learning capability, excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic.
A bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) or an equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience is required.
