Senior Software Test Engineer ensures applications meet GM IT standards for functional, system, quality, security, performance and architecture requirements. Ability to drive advanced levels of test planning, execution and quality reporting of software applications through project engagements and sustaining software test activities. This includes the creation of manual and automated test cases and test execution plans. Organizes and executes test activities to ensure applications meet GM IT standards for quality, security, performance and architecture requirements.
The Senior Software Test Engineer will perform ambiguity reviews of business and software requirements, execute tests, log defects, and report test metrics and test status to the project teams. This role requires a deep experience in software test strategy, creation of test process deliverables, test metric definition and industry standard report definition. You will work closely with management, architects, business analysts, developers and project managers to assist teams through task management for the successful and on time delivery of projects with the highest quality as possible. Assists in maintaining optimal resource utilization across a functional area; calls out constraints and available bandwidth when appropriate. Speaks to the technology stack(s) in their functional space. Manages work across multiple projects. Leads coordination of all testing activities on a project. Analyzes, tests, and certifies application-specific software and performs ambiguity reviews of business requirements and functional specification documents. Logs, tracks, and verifies resolution of requirements and software defects. Mentors junior testers through project-related conflict resolution. Serves as a mentor to less experienced staff. Initiates changes across the team and organization in an effort to improve processes and standards. Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and builds a winning culture. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of multiple software development methodologies such as Waterfall, Iterative, and Agile. Advanced knowledge of the different test types needed for a project based on a review of the business and software requirements. Demonstrated & advanced knowledge of test case management using HP ALM or Microsoft TFS (or equivalent test management tool). Advanced experience with compiling, analyzing, and communicating software test metrics and reporting. Advanced ability to drive project teams through software quality engagements. Advanced ability to drive closure on ambiguities found from reviewing business and software requirement
• 5+ years of software quality assurance and test automation for mobile, web and backend API
•3+ years of automation experience
Ability to understand various testing techniques (e.g., performance, unit, integration, automated), their strengths and weakness, and ability to use them to best effect – including tracking and addressing of any discovered issues
• Strong CS fundamentals, including OO concepts, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Ability to optimize and efficiently use the tools (such as IDE, debugger, build tools, source control, profilers, Postman) to assist with day-to-day tasks
• Proven experience developing comprehensive and effective test and performance tools, as well as frameworks (such as Java, Junit, TestNG, Selenium, Appium, Protractor and other open-source projects)
• Proven ability to drive cross-team technical discussions and decision making with a solid understanding of SDLC concepts
• BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
The expected base compensation for this role is: ($106,460 - $161,240 USD Annual). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
