Job Description:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to support the design and implementation of financial reporting and government accounting processes, systems and controls for GM’s governmental contracting business unit, GM Defense. This position requires an understanding of internal and external reporting requirements and applicable technical accounting guidance associated with Government contracting. A strong understanding of internal controls/SOX compliance leveraging financial systems is a must. This role will also serve as a strategic business partner, bringing timely insights related to the design, testing and implementation of business processes to increase clarity, improve efficiency, shorten decision cycle times and reinforce financial integrity and accountability.

This position requires either a U.S. Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization(s)

Role may require DoD Secret Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, testing and implementation of GM Defense accounting and reporting processes, systems, and controls

  • Maintain understanding of and ability to apply and operationalize accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP), and SEC rules and regulations with Government accounting (CAS and FAR/DFARS)

  • Support the Controllership and Finance organizations to evaluate current accounting practices and policies with a focus on continuous improvement and optimizing our SAP ERP solution

  • Identify, interpret, and analyze potential accounting risks and issues

  • Research and analyze the accounting implications of key transactions and contracts. Ensure business transactions and implemented processes conform to SOX control frameworks as well as CAS and FAR/DFAR requirements

  • Identify and execute internal controls, SOX compliance and financial procedures

  • Ensure designed financial reporting processes focus on accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or related business function

  • Government contract accounting experience, Cost accounting standards (CAS) and FAR/DFARs knowledge

  • Experience with firm fixed price, T&M and cost-plus contracts

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) (preferred)

  • Public accounting firm experience (preferred)Experience using SAP for government contract accounting (preferred)

  • Ability to work with a high level of independent judgment and initiative, while being able to rapidly take on and assimilate work from existing team members when required

  • Ability to understand and apply accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP)

  • Willing to take on additional responsibilities, attend training, and learn new technical skills

  • Ability to collaborate with business, IT, and data analysis resources to capture, prioritize and document solution requirements, and drive measurable results
