The Controls Engineer works autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment/controls alternatives, sequence, and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative is exercised as well as independent judgment.

Responsible for supporting activities that may include:

  • Daily support of production operations with focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality and uptime with core focus on automation and controls 

  • Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures 

  • Machinery / equipment Controls Management to ensure compliance with GM Safety and Controls standards (i.e. Robotic, Material Handling, etc) 

  • Machinery / equipment modifications and continuous improvement to support area Efficiency Improvement Processes (TIP), including ongoing assurance of TIP model prediction accuracy 

  • Maintenance / Production Guidance (technical troubleshooting and direction, safety counsel) 

  • Downtime Planning activities, as required 

  • Launch activities, as required 

  • Ensure proper documentation excellence (drawings, manuals, PM schedules etc.). Information is kept current and properly maintained for all equipment in assigned area, ensure spare parts availability, and collaborate to develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs) 

Additional Description


  • Strong controls systems technical aptitude obtained either through an Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronic engineering degree or equivalent experience

  • Experience in transmission component machining and tooling expertise 

  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to manufacturing- preferred 

  • Possess analytical and proven problem-solving abilities

  • Equipment Breakdown Problem Solving 

  • High level of communication skills to work optimally with others 

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes 

  • Must be willing to rotating shifts, and be available to work overtime including weekends

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge or experience with the following:

  • PLC (Siemens, Fanuc, Bosch Rexroth, Rockwell, Omron, General Electric) 

  • NC Controllers (Siemens, Fanuc, Bosch Rexroth, Gehring) 

  • Test Systems (Bauer) 

  • Leak Test Systems (Uson) 

  • Robots (Fanuc, ABB, Yamaha) 

  • Press Systems (Kistler, Sciemetric, Promess) 

  • Measurement Systems (Zeiss, Marposs, etc.) 

  • Vision Systems (Cognex)
