This is a Hybrid position within General Motors. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

The senior software test engineer will be responsible for developing quality standards that support the company's software development process.  You will be accountable for the overall quality of the product you work on and for developing test strategy and execution.  You’ll provide coaching and mentoring to other test engineers and develop reports and metrics to track your progress.  Working closely with senior developers and product owners to ensure overall quality by building the right test infrastructure, tools, and lead best practices that enable the absolute best quality product.  You will …

  • Develop and drive test automation strategy, execute plans, monitor, and report on progress
  • Create test cases to provide 100% test coverage for all user stories and feature using BDD or TDD
  • Ensure tests are automated within the sprint and are continually added to CICD pipeline
  • Schedule test automation suits to run once a day and triggered by every new build
  • Establish processes for maintaining automation scripts and generate regular test reports
  • Ensure team is focused on the right priorities, monitor the quality and productivity of the work
  • Be accountable for meeting automation goals and objectives for your product line 
  • Perform root cause analysis, technology evaluations, and develop quick prototypes
  • Commit to completing well-defined, secure, and elegant work and deliver on your commitments
  • Consistently follow the specified software development methodologies
  • Hold oneself and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and builds a winning culture

Additional Description


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in coaching and motivating small size teams of SDETs
  • Over 5 years of software development experience designing, building, and maintain automation frameworks using a modern programming or scripting language
  • Experience with Agile teams, regularly delivering software with code reviews
  • Experience in SQL (relational databases), key-value datastores, and document stores
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
  • Experience using version control doing rebases, merges, and handling merge conflicts
  • Knowledge of Test Manager and Azure DevOps
  • Hands on experience with BDD automation tools like Cucumber
  • Experience in Web application automation test development using Selenium
  • Solid knowledge of Web Services (SOAP and REST)
  • Hands on experience using API automation tools such as POSTMAN and JMeter
  • Experience with RestAssured API automation
  • Experience utilizing platform and infrastructure as a service technologies and capabilities and their corresponding services (object store, configuration management, service registries, etc)
  • Hands-on experience using scripting language (Java script)
  • Experience in mobile application automation test development (Native iOS and/or Android)
  • Knowledge of modern programming languages such as (C++, Python, Java), preferred
  • Knowledge of mobile test automation using Perfecto or similar tools
