Description
Hybrid Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the [general expectation is that the employee be onsite] an average of three (3) days each week.
The Role
This position is for a Battery Cell Cathode Assembly Material DRE and will work for GM’s next generation electrified vehicles. You’ll be responsible to design and release cathode assemblies for various cell chemistries. This role offers the opportunity to leverage electrochemical engineering and process development experience to evaluate manufacturing feasibility and develop/implement innovative material process concepts for battery cell technologies. You'll develop, implement, and verify specifications that relate cell quality to CAM properties, equipment efficiency and minimizing scrap rate in production while working closely with all cross functional teams to troubleshoot quality issues, address gaps in cell-performance targets and implement mitigation measures. The design release engineer will be responsible for specifying requirements on the certificate of analysis for the CAM, that directly affect the quality, durability and performance of future battery electric vehicles manufactured by GM.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
-
Work with cell engineering and manufacturing teams to build component level specifications for the cathode active materials, all the way through electrode assembly.
-
Own and drive the cathode assembly design to meet overall performance and safety of the battery cell
-
Work with cross functional engineers and teams to select appropriate chemistries on the roadmap, verify manufacturing readiness, CAM pre-processing, handling and/or storage requirements. Reuse parts where appropriate
-
Verify compatibility of CAM properties across various processing stages, from initial powder processing, slurry preparation, dispersion of cathode components
-
Work with Designers to ensure interface and packaging compatibility both internally and externally
-
Support purchasing in sourcing of components
-
Provide cell materials characterization expertise/problem solving related to the integrated product
-
Oversee and support DFMEA and Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR)
-
Work with manufacturing to ensure build ability and to determine quality requirements
-
Work to support manufacturing in root cause analysis: Troubleshoot issues with slurry properties and coating properties and material integrity across various stages of processing
-
Track validation status and review results
-
Resolve all development and validation issues
-
Manage change control for the commodity
-
Provide and manage component timing plan
-
Execute and support Peer Reviews per program milestones
-
Work with component suppliers to meet design and timing objectives
