Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum.

The Role - You will be responsible for sourcing Technology purchases (Software, Software as a Service, Infrastructure) on a regional and global basis.  Primary responsibility is to develop, negotiate and implement sourcing strategies by collaborating with key stakeholders on engineering, technology requirements, IT, security and legal, which then requires preparing and completing sourcing recommendations to various levels of management.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Understand the Automotive, Software, IT industry and the long-term direction GM software is headed.

  • Determine viable suppliers for technology requirements.

  • Develop global commodity strategies

  • Develop and manage suppliers under the guidance of Quality, Service, Technology, and Price strategies.  This includes sound understanding of deadlines, required lead times, supplier contracts and application types.

  • Active participation with key stakeholders, including engineering, IT, the business stakeholder, Legal, and Security.

  • Manage annual renewal cadence and deadlines.

  • Adheres to Corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures.

  • Negotiate price, terms, and other items to complete full contract package.

  • Utilize Global Purchasing and Supply Chain Sourcing Process to manage Sourcing packages.

  • Utilize Global Purchasing and Supply Chain Sourcing Process (Request for Quotation, Analysis of Quotation, Source Selection) to establish a capable/competitive supply base.

  • Develop benchmarking for each sourcing package.

  • Participate in supplier KPI reviews

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field (i.e. Supply Chain Management, Finance) or Information Technology

  • At least 5 years or more of Purchasing Experience, including Software or Cloud Services experience

  • Project Management Skills

  • Understand basic and advanced technology (licensing and Legal) concepts

  • Capability to function independently

  • Proficient communication skills

  • Negotiation skills

  • High level knowledge about software/technology (Software, SaaS, Immerging Technologies)

  • Analytical skills, including the ability to do in-depth benchmarking

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously, and prioritize requests

  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals  

  • Knowledge of computer software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Research)

  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Cost analysis or software development experience

  • Automotive industry experience

  • Software industry experience

  • Knowledge of software development processes/standards

  • Capable of interpreting market data

  • Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents

  • Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
