Primary responsibilities as Social Impact Lead is to: 

  • Lead social impact activities in China, including engagement with Safe Kids, Junior Achievements.
  • Collaborate with ESG project teams to identify storytelling opportunities and draft the annual sustainability report to show GM’s achievements in ESG.
  • Work with global team to identify methodology that can effectively track the impact of GM’s communication work in China.
  • Identify opportunity for communication efforts based on data.
  • Stay on alert for breaking news that may have impact on GM’s business.
  • Deliver timely update to related stakeholders on breaking news with judgement.
  • Provide analysis reports on GM/industry topics that incorporate media insights and inhouse intelligence.
  • Support crisis communication with real-time inputs on media sentiment on related topics.

III. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Knowledge:

Knowledge of communication across corporate and products

Deep understanding of media and social media landscape

Understanding of the automotive industry and overall business/social environment in China

  • Skills: 
  • Fluent English speaking/writing skills

Result-driven

Ability to learn on the fly continuously, especially on new methodology and technical tools

Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with internal stakeholders across the functions and cultures

  • Preferred Experience:

Corporate Communication, Media Relations, Executive Communication, Social Impact, Internal Communication

  • Education: 

Degree of Communication, Journalism, Automotive or other related areas 

  • Competencies: 

Ethics & Values; Composure; Decision Quality; Influence without Authority; Proven ability to think out of the box; Dealing with Ambiguity; Functional/Technical skills; Managerial Courage; Customer Focus; Organizational Agility; Ability to process information from variety of sources to make decisions
