Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing, Michigan on a full-time basis. This is an off-shift position.

The Role

As a Safety Representative, you will be accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, mentoring, instructing, and coaching to site/functional operations.

What You'll Do

  • Advises safety managers and manufacturing leadership for the continued development of safety and health culture 

  • Develops and implements programs to reduce job related injuries

  • Meets with union representatives for the development of safety processes and projects

  • May conduct plant inspections or surveys

  • May represent Division, Region or Corporate safety on special plant reviews, incident investigations or government safety regulation compliance

  • Analyzes safety statistics and develops recommendation with consultation of safety managers

  • Helps to develop leadership in safety related processes and facilitates the safety training of employees

  • Regular contact with others outside the work group 

  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project 

  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions 

  • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in safety related areas 

  • Demonstrates complete job knowledge and understanding of assigned work area 

  • Provides support for Global Safety activities, including travel to other GM Regions, interface with regional leadership, and assistance in developing Global common safety processes

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • BS/BA Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or related discipline or equivalent experience

  • Experience in Health and Safety

  • Strong interpersonal skills including facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution 

  • Demonstrated ability to energize and influence at the leadership level 

  • Proven ability to build trust and respect at all levels of the organization 

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set and execute to work plans 

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, prioritization and project management skills

  • Demonstrated discretion in dealing with highly confidential matters 

  • Proficient in MS Office and related software programs

  • Ability to travel to all regions within GM

  • This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge

  • 3+ years experience Managing Safety in a Manufacturing setting preferred

  • Understanding of GM Global Manufacturing System
