Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to The Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum.

The  Strategy & Innovation (S&I) Team  at General Motors focuses on impact and driving transformation. It is home to the company’s Corporate Strategy, Enterprise Data Analytics & Insights, Enterprise Innovation, Strategic Tech Partnership, and Corporate Purpose functions. The goal of the Enterprise Innovation team is to foster innovation across the GM ecosystem, collaborate with cross-functional teams and grow new value propositions. 

What You’ll Do:  

We are hiring an Innovation Business Strategy & Commercialization Analyst to join the Enterprise Innovation team.  In this role you will have the opportunity to act as key strategic adviser to help the Enterprise Innovation teams in developing commercialization strategies for new products.  Additionally, you will evaluate the macro-environment and competitive landscape for MVPs, assist in identifying differentiation opportunities, and our right to win.  Implement entrepreneurial frameworks, such as the Lean Startup or Design Thinking, to take new products to market.  Must be able to process a broad array of inputs into a clear and coherent product commercialization strategy.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely across the Enterprise Innovation teams to evaluate MVP concepts through a commercialized lens.

  • Work with all EI teams to develop MVPs to test with potential customers and business partners.

  • Support market research and customer empathy interviews.

  • Ensure that all business deliverables are identified and accounted for in the project plan with responsibility and due dates.

  • Investigate, document, and implement complex business models and processes.

  • Develop business cases and financial models to support MVP development.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

As an Enterprise Innovation Intern on the Commercialization Team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our innovation platforms and engagement tools. Your contributions will include:

  • Strategic Business Analysis: Evaluate various potential commercialization strategies and business models.

  • Startup Environment: Gain experience thinking through the most challenging aspects of a startup- getting the sale.

  • Financial Modeling: Developing financial models to show the expected return on investment of a potential new product or service.

  • Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and address both host and customer needs effectively.

  • Needs Assessment : Evaluate and prioritize needs based on effort versus return to ensure impactful outcomes.

Required Qualifications:     

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Business Administration, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, or Management / Leadership

  • Must be graduating between May 2026 - December 2027

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience working within a startup, innovation, or incubation environment (strongly preferred)

  • Experience in market research and competitive intelligence

  • Proficiency in design thinking and agile / lean methodologies, specifically Lean Startup

  • High degree of comfort communicating and negotiating with external companies

  • Proven proficiency crafting and presenting stories

  • Financial modeling skills, specifically DCF models to evaluate business models and concepts

  • Strong communication skills

Start dates for this internship role are May of 2025.

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this role is $4,100-$4,400, dependent upon class status and degree.

  • GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
