Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to one of the following locations: Mountain View, CA or Warren, MI you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead the hardware development of microcontrollers (MCU) in electronic component designs. This hardware engineer position will be dependent on building strong partnerships with both internal team members responsible for electronic control unit (ECU) design, as well as semiconductor partner(s). The primary focus will be on analyzing MCU performance/optimization, benchmarking, and ECU-level integration.

We expect you to demonstrate leadership qualities, actively champion change, possess keen business intuition, and strategically address systemic challenges. You should also exhibit high learning agility, the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation while challenging the status quo. 

What You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities):

  • Build partnerships and work closely with functional peers across engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to implement semiconductor strategic objectives. 

  • Lead ECU-level integration items for MCU team – primary focus on functional safety/safety case usage, secondary focus on schematic/layout and DFMEA. 

  • Develop requirements and data analysis for MCU performance/optimization.  

  • Develop a clear benchmarking strategy, covering all aspects of development. 

  • Work with system engineers, software engineers, and hardware engineers to define and optimize MCU domain solutions. 

  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and electronic control unit product lines within scope of responsibility. 

  • Support Staff Hardware Engineer with technology roadmaps in close collaboration with industry leaders, benchmarking, and performance optimization analysis. 

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science. 

  • 5+ total years of microcontroller experience at a semiconductor supplier, OR at a Tier 1 ECU supplier. 

  • 2+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design and development. 

  • Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and automotive software architecture. 

  • Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability for working across functional and organizational boundaries. 

  • Exceptional demonstrated experience leading projects to completion. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to learn quickly. 

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 

  • 8+ total years of microcontroller experience at a semiconductor supplier, OR at a Tier 1 ECU supplier. 

  • Industry knowledge with the design and application of different semiconductors. 

  • Experience with software analysis and debugging tools, such as Lauterbach or CANalyzer. 

  • Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters. 

Compensation: 

  • The expected base compensation for this role is: $180,950 - $218,900. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position. 

  • Bonus Potential:   An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
