In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will play a major role in setting the technical direction, and leading effort in developing scalable and performant backend services and systems for BrightDrop’s new electrified last-mile delivery ecosystem. This role provides a unique opportunity where you will be working across all of the BrightDrop software products, and truly steering the future of BrightDrop’s system architecture, APIs, products, and customers. Scope and lead large technical projects with large impact across multiple teams

Building a robust platform to support BrightDrop’s future

Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable and performant services and systems

Serve as a role model for software design and scalable system architecture by developing, sharing, elevating the quality bar and engineering efficiency for software teams at BrightDrop

Build and launch new capabilities and products that bring significant value to customers internal and external

Work effectively with stakeholders across the organization including dependency engineering teams, product, design, infrastructure and operations

Mentor senior engineers to be the next generation of technical leaders

Explore new technologies and enrich our technological stack

Advise BrightDrop leadership team on key technical considerations and roadmap
Additional Description
Qualifications:
-
8+ years of hands-on backend software development
-
Proven expertise in building highly performant and scalable large-scale distributed systems and Service-Oriented architecture
-
Proven experience in system architecture design and take from concept to production
-
Have served as the technical lead across multiple teams within engineering

Have owned the technical roadmap for large business areas
-
Have proven track record in writing high quality production code that is tested thoroughly, supported by clear documentation and has appropriate production observability

Strong understanding and experience with NoSQL and relational DB
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in one of the JVM languages Java / Scala / Kotlin + SpringBoot. Language can be learned and we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework

Experience with at least one of the public cloud providers Azure, AWS, GCP
-
Experience with IoT stack is a big plus

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering preferred
The expected base compensation for this role is: ($179,960 - $265,810 USD Annual). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
