The Role:
GM's Creative Design organization is seeking a Maintenance Specialist to provide technical support, training and mentoring for a staff of UAW represented electricians, millwrights, machine repair personnel, and others to maintain operations of process equipment and CNC machinery in the Fabrication Shops and Design Studios.
What You'll Do:
- Exhibit a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concerns and supporting the safety champions of each space in Design
- Demonstrate behaviors that support diversity and inclusion within the organization
- Support of the maintenance and repair of CNC machines and process hardware working closely with Strat-A technicians to train, mentor, and coordinate teams
- Interact with vendors regarding the purchase, maintenance, support, and repair of CNC machines and equipment
- Draft and maintain documentation of Standardized Work, maintenance procedures and machine test methods and results
- Develop, plan and execute strategies for ongoing support of Design Fabrication CNC operations, including refinement of preventative maintenance and calibration schedules
- Provide and track communications between management, customers and hourly technicians
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience with machine tools, measurement devices, calibration instrumentation and control hardware and software
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of CNC machines and process equipment, including operation, calibration, volumetric error-mapping, various drive systems (ball-screw, rack and pinion, linear motor, etc.), feedback devices, and motor configurations
- Experience in metrology technologies, including touch-probe operation, laser coordinate mapping, thermal characteristics of materials, resonant frequencies, hysteresis, etc.
- Experience with machine control applications, familiar with configuring and diagnosing all aspects of a machine control such as: drive parameters, feedback components and safety devices
- Understanding of computer systems and software applications that drive CNC machinery including file transfer protocols, CAM applications, machining dynamics etc.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with suppliers to address issues of urgency, remove roadblocks, and develop team strategies
- Ability to create an environment that enables all participants to contribute to full potential by influencing others within the organization to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
- Experience in coordinating/delegating tasks among the various team members for concurrent projects
- Demonstrated commitment to winning with integrity, capable of building effective teams, being customer-focused and results-driven
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with motion controls such as; Siemens, Fanuc, Haas, Heidenhain, Tarus Aldebaran etc…
- Experience in providing leadership with represented skilled trades in multiple disciplines
- Working knowledge of corporate safety standards and shop protocols
- Familiarity with drafting of purchasing documents, including Statement of Requirements, Business Cases, Safety and Sourcing Documents, etc.
