Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role

The search for a skilled engineer in the realm of race car powertrain systems is a quest for a rare blend of precision, autonomy, and speed. Such a professional must not only possess a deep understanding of electrical and electronic systems but also exhibit an unwavering commitment to quality and efficiency. The ability to steer a team of experts towards success, often under the intense pressure of urgent deadlines, is paramount. This role is not for the faint-hearted; it demands a hands-on approach, a robust technical background, and an infectious enthusiasm for the pulse-racing world of motorsports.

The responsibilities include offering support to both the Performance Parts division and the critical testing phases within the dyno lab. While travel is not a constant, the readiness to provide on-site assistance during pivotal track tests or races is essential. In essence, this position is a call to those who thrive in dynamic environments, where clear thinking and proactive problem-solving can lead a team to victory.

What You’ll Do

  • Mechanical and schematic design and hands-on building of motorsport powertrain wiring looms

  • Determine requirements and specify sensors, injectors, ignition coils and various actuators for motorsport powertrain applications

  • Algorithm, comms link, and calibration support for powertrain controls on dynamometer and in-vehicle

  • Produce and maintain documentation of harnesses and processes for building, testing, and issue resolution

  • Provide open and regular communication with the program managers, track support engineers, engine builders, and Dynamometer team

  • Partner with team of technicians to establish and maintain stock of components required for harness and sensor building

  • Powertrain control systems installation, setup, operation, troubleshooting, and results reporting for dynamometer powertrain tests to optimize efficiency, durability, weight and performance

  • Bench setup and checkout of new or revised system software to assure readiness for engine, dynamometer and/or vehicle installation

  • Create, save, and document changes to engine, driveline, data logger and telemetry setups and calibrations for sensors and configurations

  • Document and troubleshoot components returned from the track or dynamometer to determine condition and failure analysis

  • Maintain current LS&A (Loom, Sensor & Actuator) component lists

  • Assist technicians with LS&A inventory management and ordering

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent powertrain electronic experience and training

  • 10 years minimum relevant industry experience

  • Flexibility to work independently and in teams while taking direction from stakeholders from multiple racing programs

  • Talent to manage projects to deliver results on time while meeting rigorous specifications

  • Exceptional organization and record-keeping skills

  • Able to specify and implement (for use) all of the wiring, sensors, actuators and control modules required to support powertrain operations and development for all race programs

  • Firsthand involvement using OEM and motorsports telemetry, engine and driveline control systems hardware, software and communication links (i.e. GM, Bosch, Motec, TAG McLaren, MegaLine, Ethernet, CAN, RS232)

  • Experience using OE automotive, industrial and mil spec wiring systems & hardware (USCAR, Packard, Tyco, Bosch, Deutsch and Amphenol)

  • Familiarity with Vizeo for creating wiring diagrams

  • Involvement building race engine looms is beneficial

  • Skill building custom wiring looms for small electro-mechanical devices

  • Experience wiring and maintaining aircraft electrical systems (military or civil) is also relevant
