Work Arrangement:    

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned plant on a full-time basis.   

What You’ll Do:  

Looking for a position that demonstrates your high level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult? As a Quality Engineer intern at GM, you would drive problem solving and resolutions based on data driven solutions to suppliers and internal customers. Your work would involve functioning as a technical liaison between production operations, engineering, suppliers, and supplier quality at a GM manufacturing plant. Responsibilities may include:     

  • Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results to part print specifications to assure quality and reliability   

  • Ensure effective containment and resolution to identified non-conforming product   

  • Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to Quality Systems Manager   

  • Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills   

  • Validate supplier scrap   

  • Work with Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) process on supplier related issues   

  • Support the PTR Process by running PTR's and evaluating impact on the product / function   

  • Support launch activities of new products   

  • Support the implementation and effective adherence to all elements within GMS   

Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to: 

  • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. 

  • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections. 

  • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals. 

  • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes. 

  • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold). 

  • Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch and reach to perform work. 

  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs. 

  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.

Required Qualifications:   

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Material Sciences, Manufacturing Engineering, or related area  

  • Must be graduating between December 2025 and May 2028 

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months  

  • Willing to work in a plant environment

  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust 

  • Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric 

  • Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects at any given 

Start dates for this internship role are May and June of 2025.    

Compensation:   

  • The salary range for this role is $4,000 - $4,900 monthly, dependent upon class status and degree.  

  • GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
