Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times a week, at minimum.

The Role:

The Low Voltage Infrastructure Team within the Embedded Platform Systems & Infrastructure (EPSI) organization focuses on developing systems and controls for on-vehicle low voltage power generation, energy storage, power management, distribution, and consumption control. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team as it advances the next generation of low voltage power architectures and consumption control strategies in SDV 2.0.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, architecture, implementation, and deployment of Activation Power Management Software within the Power Management Domain of the Low Voltage Infrastructure organization. This role requires close collaboration with emerging technology initiatives, particularly Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), which serve as the foundation for future advancements in electric vehicles (EVs) and automated driving. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring seamless integration with the broader software architecture and core enabling technologies. Given the complexity and significance of this domain, this position demands strong technical leadership to address range and fuel economy challenges, optimize low voltage power consumption, and preserve battery charge while the vehicle is off.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with internal departments and external suppliers, possessing extensive experience in developing infrastructure software solutions for electronic control modules (ECUs). This includes working with technologies such as Bootloaders, Classic AUTOSAR (OS, RTE), Software Updates & Security (SUMS, Cybersecurity), GM BSW modules, and other application software components. Your contributions will play a key role in shaping the future of low voltage power management and supporting next-generation vehicle architectures.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the design, architecture, implementation, and deployment of Activation Power management Software in the Power management Domain within the Low Voltage Infrastructure organization.

  • Work directly with critical partners such as GM Tools, BSW Vendors, Controller Application Teams, HWIO, Cybersecurity to deliver an efficient and compliant Power Management Software Solution that meets SDV2.0 requirements.

  • Delivery on time with first time quality to meet program deliverables, CVF, IC by Electrical System Bench, and other critical infrastructure milestones.

  • Align key stakeholders across EPSI, coordinate architecture of the various initiatives, determine the optimal architecture to meet technical and business objectives, and deliver tactical plans and roadmaps to the execution team.

  • Review existing software to determine restructuring opportunities to improve quality, maintainability, reusability, or other software improvements.

  • Stay up to date on trends in layered software engineering, quality, architecture, and development processes.

  • Actively engage in external technical communities to stay abreast with latest technology trends and bring outside perspective to continuously improve our architecture, products, and processes.

  • Engage with systems engineering group to collaborate, interpret and lead the implementation of Activation Power management Software specifications derived from GB/SDV specifications.

  • Collaborate with VMEC, SDV, Embedded Platform Infrastructure, Electronics, Mechatronics, and other VIP and SDV-Embedded Platform teams to ensure key stakeholder alignment, innovation, quality, efficiency, and productivity, as well as support technology roadmaps.

  • Drive software architecture discipline and principles into the organization.

  • Build relationships and manage key interfaces with other organizations and teams such as systems/safety/ advanced controls/hardware engineering, to define and capture requirements and ensure successful implementation of features.

  • Mentor and develop others, providing technical training and establish effective mechanisms of knowledge-sharing.
