General Motors is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Staff Software Engineer, Performance and Optimizations . This role will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and durability, with a specific focus on performance analysis and system-level (Kernel, Drivers, Applications) optimizations for our in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Specific job responsibilities include:
· Develop embedded (C/C++) software and contribute to our next-generation vehicle operating systems while supporting and optimizing our existing platforms.
· Focus on performance analysis and system-level optimizations, ensuring software quality and predictability.
· Implement and fine-tune Kernel, drivers and applications to achieve optimal performance on existing and future platforms.
· Collaborate across the organization to identify dependencies and needs related to system performance, drive initiatives to find opportunities and spearhead activities to identify bottlenecks, optimize system resource utilization and improve throughput and CPU/GPU/Mem usage.
· Generate performance projections, comparisons, and detailed analysis reports for internal and external stakeholders.
· Collaborate with software, DevOps, product and QA teams to guide the development of next-generation GM computing software.
· Define Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and work towards continuously improving these metrics.

Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in software engineering or work related experience
· 8+ years of experience in software development and debugging in complex Linux/Android/QNX environments.
· Proven experience in performance analysis and system-level optimizations on ARM/SOC architectures.
· Experience with performance profiling tools (e.g. Perfetto, Android Profiler and others).
· Strong, full-stack knowledge of application and OS software.
· Deep understanding of kernel, BSPs, drivers, and associated middleware including Linux, QNX, and Android.
· Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration skills.
· Experience shipping high-quality products in a consumer context.
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders.
· Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in an action-oriented decision-making environment.
