The Role
The Data Engineering organization at General Motors is at the forefront of innovation, leveraging data to drive the future of mobility. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Calibration Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for defining and validating the development and production values for critical configuration files that govern the state of the vehicle's Control and Data planes. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle architectures, communication protocols, and software development principles, along with excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse engineering teams.
What You'll Do

Define and document the 'development' and 'production' calibration values that govern the function of the control and data plane (Calibration Guides and Procedures).

Develop and maintain configuration files that dictate the operational state of the vehicle's Control and Data planes.

Collaborate closely with software engineers, controls engineers, and validation teams to understand system requirements and ensure accurate calibration values.

Utilize your understanding of vehicle architectures, including the interaction between different electronic control units (ECUs) and systems.

Apply your knowledge of communication protocols such as Controller Area Network (CAN) and Ethernet to define and validate network configurations.

Analyze and interpret vehicle data logs to identify calibration discrepancies and optimize system performance.

Develop and execute test plans to validate the accuracy and robustness of calibration files.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve calibration-related issues that arise during development and production.

Maintain meticulous records of calibration parameters, changes, and validation results.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of calibration processes and tools.

Participate in cross-functional team meetings to provide calibration expertise and contribute to overall vehicle development.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive engineering, software development, or a related calibration role.

Strong understanding of C/C++ software development principles and practices.

Solid knowledge of vehicle architectures, including the interaction of various vehicle systems and ECUs.

Proficiency in working with and understanding communication protocols such as CAN and Ethernet.

Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain accuracy in complex technical tasks.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to work on-site in either our Oshawa or Markham, Ontario office for 3 days per week.
What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with calibration tools and processes used in the automotive industry.

Familiarity with data logging and analysis tools (e.g., CANalyzer, CANoe).

Understanding of automotive functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).

Experience with scripting languages such as Python for data analysis or automation.
