Remote: This role is categorized as remote. This means the successful candidate may be based anywhere in the United States and is not expected to report to a GM worksite unless directed by their manager.
Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.”
The Role
We are looking for an experienced safety leader to lead our AV Safety Management System (SMS) for GM that spans across all aspects of AV safety at the company including product development, workplace safety, and operations. In this position, you will collaborate with teams across Engineering, Operations, Safety & Systems, Regulatory, HR, and Legal to build an engaging and integrated safety management system program in line with our company’s overall dedication to creating a safer world
What You’ll Do

Build and maintain a highly effective GM Safety Management System

Prioritize and lead execution of strategic and detailed SMS roadmaps.

Prepare and communicate periodic reviews of SMS implementation and health with executive leadership.

Ensure all SMS elements and systems are aligned and function as an effective system within the broader GM design and operations workflows and tooling.

Advance GM risk and organizational change standards across the software, safety and systems engineering teams .

Develop and maintain the governance for the SMS program, in consultation with Legal, including document control, recordkeeping timelines, access control, and workflows.

Support the leadership team in the administration and planning of the SMS Steering Committee and Safety Council.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor degree in Safety, Engineering, or related technical fields
-
5+ years of leadership experience implementing and leading SMS in a transportation sector (AV, aviation, automotive, trucking, maritime, etc.) and must have broad safety knowledge

Strong analytical skills with ability to provide clear recommendations and solutions using data
-
Strong customer focus with desire to roll up your sleeves and understand hands-on how SMS does and should integrate into our business

Ability to creatively problem solve for mutually successful outcomes
-
Ability to influence employees, peers, and leadership as a change agent
-
Ability to lead through ambiguity and provide clarity to the team

Biased for action with excellent program management skills

Excited to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and matrixed team environment

Experience working with the ICAO SMS framework

Champion of safety culture

Compensation:

The expected base compensation for this role is $160,200- $245,400 USD Annually

Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position
