We are seeking a Motorsports Aerodynamics CAE Specialist to join a multidisciplined engineering team to test, develop, and optimize aerodynamic performance of complete race vehicles. Working in a virtual environment, your focus will be to develop the highest performing vehicles possible. Supporting full car and subsystem models capable of detailed aerodynamic simulation, you will use proper assembly, modeling, and organizational techniques to strengthen this fast-paced CFD program. In cooperation with GM Key Partner race teams, you will help develop and support processes to safeguard thoroughness and consistency throughout our structured team environment.

What you will do:

Convert existing CAD models into simplified clean assemblies that are CFD friendly and optimized for high fidelity meshing purposes

Maintain multiple full car and sub system assemblies within a CAD database

Work in team environment to manage CFD resources ensuring quality throughput is consistent with the highest level of motorsport technology

Interface and collaborate with GM design studio and production engineering in virtual design, development, and validation

Coordinate with designers and model makers to have concepts manufactured for wind tunnel testing

Ensure the accuracy of the components of CFD CAD models and assemblies match wind tunnel and production vehicles

Participate in planning and conducting physical tests in full or reduced scale wind tunnel
Additional Description
What you will need:
-
5+ years aerodynamic experience using computer tools, 3D CAD (NX or Catia preferred), CAE methods, and Experimental Data

Knowledge of race series regulation in at least one of the following: NASCAR, IndyCar, or Formula 1

Ability to communicate with or influence senior internal and external partners in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment

Understanding of experimental aerodynamics best practices

Experience leading or participating in physical testing in full or reduced scale rolling road wind tunnels
Nice to have:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related subject with coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics

Basic programming experience with Java and VBA language for use in CFD process automation

Working knowledge of CFD software and visualization related software and methods

Experience developing refined model meshes ready for CFD testing

Experience with the architecture and performance of race vehicles
