The EV Thermal Controls Co-op student will be given the opportunity to engage in the development of thermal systems for EV vehicles in the area of Electrification Thermal controls and diagnostic design. These areas include Matlab/Simulink/C Code based algorithm development, testing, virtual and vehicle calibration! The student will work with a diverse team of engineers to support the development of new systems as well as be an agile developer on a scrum team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and development of Thermal EV control and diagnostic algorithms

  • Conduct testing of prototype and production software (simulation, bench, and in-vehicle)

  • Support supplier component design and development activities

  • Support production calibration activities through in-vehicle testing and data analysis

  • Investigate & support continuous improvement activities associated with production programs

  • Participate in the day-to-day engineering activities in order to gain an understanding of the vehicle development process

  • Participate in an Agile SAFe scrum team

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's (3rd and 4th year students but will consider qualified 2nd year students with EcoCAR, or SAE project experience) or Master's degree in one of the following areas: Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and for 12-month term (3 consecutive semesters) starting January 2024

  • Basic electrical and control systems knowledge

  • Experience with Simulink (working level knowledge)

  • Curiosity about vehicle controls and EV technology

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Ability to travel to the US (Recommended)

  • Have a valid Full Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province licence
