Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Austin or Roswell three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

As a Data Security Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our organization's data assets. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement and maintain robust security measures, identify, and mitigate data security risks, and respond to security incidents.

In this role you will be accountable to govern data movement at rest and in motion to ensure how it is monitored aligns with the GM data management strategy.  This role is also responsible to effectively manage data monetization activities across the GM data ecosystem.  Accountable to define policies and govern compliance for data (structured, unstructured, and streamed) for enterprise data assets that are being hydrated or shared internally or with 3rd parties. Ultimately this role will accelerate data risk management across the federated data mesh and data value stream.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement data security strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the organization's data assets.

  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of data systems and infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and recommend security enhancements.

  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement secure data architectures, networks, and systems.

  • Monitor and analyze data security logs and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.

  • Investigate and resolve data incidents, including conducting forensic analysis and implementing remediation measures.

  • Implement and manage access controls, authentication mechanisms, and encryption protocols to safeguard data.

  • Stay updated on the latest data security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, and proactively recommend security enhancements.

  • Conduct security awareness training for employees to promote a culture of data security and compliance.

  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to ensure the security of data shared or accessed by third parties.

  • Participate in incident response planning and exercises to ensure effective incident management and recovery.

  • Maintain documentation of data security policies, procedures, and incident response plans.

  • Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure data security practices align with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Provide guidance and support to IT teams and business units on data security best practices and compliance requirements.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.

  • 7+ years’ experience in enterprise organizations where analytics, data, and insights fueled key growth

  • Strong knowledge of data security principles, best practices, and industry standards.

  • Familiarity with data encryption, access controls, authentication mechanisms, and network security protocols.

  • Strong knowledge of data pipeline technologies and tools, such as Kafka, Hive, Spark, Python Airflow, PowerBI or similar.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's degree is a plus.

  • Experience leading teams for a Fortune 500 company.
