Remote: This role is categorized as remote. This means the successful candidate may be based anywhere in the United States and is not expected to report to a GM worksite unless directed by their manager.

What You’ll Do & How You’ll Impact:
As a Data Science intern, you will have an opportunity to work on project(s) that may entail:

Developing analytical solutions by applying data science and modeling techniques to deliver useful insights for better decisions and improved business performance.

Performing hands-on analysis, design, and development of analytical solutions
-
Performing exploratory and targeted data analyses, which could include complex event and real-time event processing
-
Building predictive models and machine learning algorithms
-
Analyzing large amounts of diverse information to discover trends and patterns
-
Driving the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
-
Preparing and cleaning structured and/or unstructured data
-
Combining models through ensemble modeling
-
Presenting complex information using data visualization techniques
-
Identifying practical insights, making recommendations, and communicating results to business and technical audiences
-
Establishing strong working relationships with cross-functional teams to formulate business problems and validate assumptions
-
Assessing new technologies, as needed, as related to solving business problems
-
Working under mentorship of a senior data scientist on analytical solutions
-
Getting exposure to other work being done across the Enterprise Data, Analytics & Insights team
Required Qualifications:
-
Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field

Must be graduating between December 2025 - May 2028

Ability to show skills in several of following areas: classification, regression, forecasting, clustering, anomaly detection, co-occurrence grouping, similarity matching, profiling, link prediction, dimensionality reduction, tensor decomposition and regression, and causal inference

Proficiency with at least one programming language such as Python, R, Scala or Java
-
Experience with SQL and familiarity with relational databases

Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or similar
What will give you competitive edge (Preferred qualifications):
-
Experience working with large data sets, distributed computing tools (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, etc.) and Machine Learning pipelines (Scikit-learn, DASK, etc.) is preferred

A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data

Excellent teammate and communicator with strong interpersonal skills
-
Cultivates open, inclusive culture that supports learning and encourages collaboration

Has a thirst to learn the latest knowledge in software and hardware products or services, trends, help select the best solutions to meet business requirements, and support the presentation and explanation of design solution to customers
Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.
Compensation:
-
The salary range for this role is $4,700-$6,800, dependent upon class status and degree.

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
