Work Arrangement:

  • This role is categorized as hybrid . This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Cole Engineering Center , Warren MI three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:


As a Buyer for Advanced Tech & Innovation, you will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. Responsible for actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and collaborate with suppliers or internal partners. The work is of a sophisticated nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and judgment.

What You’ll Do:

  • All Sourcing and Contracting Activities that including sourcing event bid strategy & management, bid analytics, coordination, and alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR, RFQ documentation, leadership sourcing recommendation / alignment, and management of sourcing documentation related to bid events in adherence to the GM Audit Services

  • Daily supplier interface activities on all commercial items

  • Drive commercial budget activities

  • Support supply chain activities & disruptions to find alternative solutions

  • Support supplier management initiatives, including “Strategic Supplier Engagement”

  • Cultivate relationships with strategic suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolution

  • Perform rate management activities including benchmarking, rate analysis, and read-across opportunities

  • Participate in supplier performance reviews

  • This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 2+ years relevant post-graduate work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development

  • Developing Contracts / Agreements  – minimum 1 year post-grad experience

  • Project Execution – minimum 1 year post-grad experience

  • Experience with commodities (metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics, etc.)

  • Experience managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance

  • Demonstrated competence in negotiating skills

  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills

  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be somewhat complex

  • Developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

  • Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • SAP

  • MRP Systems

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Ability to travel at least 10 % of time Domestically

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related advanced degree

  • Automotive industry experience

  • Knowledge of procurement software and materials management

  • Capable of interpreting market data

  • Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents

  • Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes

  • Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed
