Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Memphis facility on a full-time basis.

The Role

General Motors is looking for Human Resources (HR) and Labor Relations (LR) professionals who are excited to help lead in the HR space.  As a Regional Site HR/LR Lead, you will be directly responsible for delivery of HR and LR services at our Memphis, TN Customer Care & Aftersales (CCA) Parts Distribution Center.  In addition, you will function as a People Leader to the Site HR/LR Leads located at our Cincinnati, OH, Charlotte, NC, and Jackson, MS Parts Distribution Centers.    

Within your region, you will provide leadership and direction that supports our General Motors’ vision, mission, values, cultural behaviors and business objectives.  You will work strategically with your direct reports and assigned functional business leaders to support our key HR and LR objectives aimed at improving culture, improving leadership effectiveness, improving engagement, developing talent, and administering/negotiating contractual provisions that yield productivity and cost effectiveness for your respective site.  You will also have responsibility for some site Safety related activities at your designated site.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead selection, hiring, development, performance management and compensation planning for direct reports in your region
  • Provide guidance on day-to-day issues to direct reports in your region
  • Champion projects that support key HR/LR objectives across your region
  • Provide onsite HR/LR service delivery at designated home location
  • Manage hourly, contract and salaried employment administration
  • Promote a positive working relationship with the union through consistent application of local and national agreements
  • Negotiate and implement local and national agreements
  • Partner with the Plant Manager in driving GM culture, promoting positive employee experiences and improving employee engagement
  • Provide HR leadership for the site (i.e. talent planning, performance management, compensation planning, recruiting and selection, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance to policy and support investigations of employee concerns
  • Facilitate training on HR policies, HR/LR procedures and contractual agreements including the UAW Local and National agreements
  • Champion assigned Workplace Safety System Elements and administration of local safety related items
  • Support People Involvement and implementation of our Global Manufacturing System (GMS)

Minimum Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years of experience providing HR and LR support to an organization
  • Experience working in a union environment, negotiating, and resolving conflicts
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, LR, business or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding HR/LR matters
  • Organized, able to work independently, meet deadlines, and drive the business forward in alignment with HR/LR objectives
  • Highly proficient analytical and project management skills
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HR applications (e.g. Workday, etc.)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in Warehouse, Manufacturing, Operation or Distribution
