Workplace Classification:
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite up to 3 times per week, with flexible schedule for periodic race weekend remote support.
GM Motorsports Software Engineering is looking to expand its motorsports data science and analytics group. GM Motorsports is currently racing in NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA and is currently pursuing an entry into Formula 1.
Team Overview:
GM’s Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next generation groundbreaking Motorsports IT software solutions. Using both innovative cloud-based infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions enable innovative interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and our Race teams that accelerate our drivers to the finish line first!
Our combined team of analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers work with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure podium wins for GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar teams!
The Role:
The Staff Motorsports Technical Lead will work with broader business teams, stakeholders, and paying race team customers to collect all software needs then translate into Epics/Features/User Stories/Defects which align with overall Motorsports digital strategy – Motorsports Software as a Service, Race Vehicle Platform, Vehicle Definition & Vehicle Simulation, and Competition Tools. Since supporting the race teams is our top priority, the Motorsports Technical Lead is encouraged to travel to races to experience the customers using the application in a live scenario.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Work with Software Development teams to communicate Epics/Features/User Stories/Defects in a consumable fashion to be executed on.
- Translate software product strategies into requirements and roadmaps.
- Manage ongoing changes and cross-team coordination.
- Define priorities and help communicate them to key stakeholders.
- Assist other teams through software product development to meet objectives.
- Drive software product releases, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Leverages market research & continuous exploration to continually understand customer & market; Includes competitive benchmarking.
- Track software performance (e.g. analytics) and suggest improvements to customer experience and product strategy.
- Daily management on digital products with strategic mindset upon mid/long term product enhancement.

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelors degree holder or equivalent, majoring in Strategy/Management/Digital Communication /Computer Science/ Computer Information Systems or relevant field
- 5-8+ years experience as a product manager, product owner or similar role
- Extensive knowledge of Motorsports in a particular series (NASCAR/IndyCar/IMSA/Formula1)
- Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle
- Experience with prioritizing and multitasking
- Familiar with latest technology and software capabilities
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
- Strong communication and presentation skills, written and verbal, fluent in English
- Excellent strategic agility – ability to recognize & capitalize on opportunities, identify and avoid threats, and pivot when needed
- Comfortable with communicating to senior executives
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
- Experience in design, development, or digital marketing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree
- Experience with the auto industry
