Description

The Controls Systems Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

  • Ability to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, weekends as needed
  • Develop and document requirements required to design an automotive system
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologies
  • Oversee requirements development with other activities
  • Provide support to other specialists for root cause analysis
  • Strong ability to expertly capture and analyze empirical data.
  • Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements
  • Stay on top of industry trends, technologies, and standard methodologies
  • Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective action s
  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of the electrical and control aspects of equipment and tools required for the production of body shop assemblies
  • Support ME (Manufacturing Engineering) team in Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process
  • Existing production support troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, etc.
  • Support the TIP (Throughput Improvement process) Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Support the development of error proofing/error proofing validation plans
  • Continuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness & safety
  • Participate in safety g-Risk activities with cross functional group
  • Conduct Equipment build/run-off and buyoff processes
  • Support installation of projects including new zone installations
  • Support the deliverables of product launches
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain working contacts with vendors, GM IT, other internal engineering disciplines and management at plant and headquarters

  • Strong work ethic (self-starter, responsible, follow through on assignments) Demonstrates this initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to learn new skills, and coach/ mentor others on Control related issues, using a hands-on approach
  • Demonstrates understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process
  • Ability to use computer, interpret prints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.

Preferred Skills:

3-5 years in the following:

  • Experience in Control Architectures:
    • PLC:   Allen Bradley / Siemens
    • Fanuc Robotics
    • HMI (TIA Portal, FactoryTalk, PanelBuilder, PanelMate)
    • Vision:   Banner / Fanuc iR Vision
    • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD):   Allen Bradley / Siemens
    • Networks: DeviceNet, Ethernet
  • Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives.
  • Experience in Fanuc robots setup and programming.
  • Management of projects through purchasing processes
  • Management of deliveries to program timing milestones.
  • Preferred GM Global Common Controls Architecture
  • Knowledge of high voltage power distribution

Education:

  • Preferred - Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering and equivalent experience/training.
