Description

General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities. Our ECU Electrical team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on developing electrical design of next generation ECUs (Electronic Control Units). The team also reviews and approves production ECU design changes.

We are seeking a Signal Integrity and EMC Simulations Manager to ensure the performance and reliability of high-speed hardware designs by analyzing and mitigating signal degradation issues. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize design processes and address potential signal integrity challenges early in development. The ideal candidate will play a critical part in supporting our semiconductor strategy, driving innovation, and ensuring product excellence in next-generation systems.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA location three times per week (Tues., Wed., Thurs.), at minimum (or other frequency dictated by the business).

The Role:

In-vehicle electronics is a fast-growing technology in the global automotive industry featuring many cutting-edge technologies such as Compute, body and zone controllers, multi-view cameras, Gig+Ethernet, PCIe, digital/analog interfaces and more. We are looking for creative and enthusiastic candidate to become part of a fast-moving team who want to lead the future direction of the automotive industry.

In this role, you will oversee SI analysis, simulation, and testing processes, drive the adoption of industry-leading methodologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address the most challenging signal integrity issues. You will also define strategic goals, mentor team members, and ensure alignment with broader organizational objectives to deliver exceptional results in high-speed PCB and system-level design.

If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of high-speed design and enjoy leading talented teams to solve complex engineering problems, we encourage you to apply..

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers specializing in signal integrity and EMC simulations..

  • Define team goals, set priorities, and allocate resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality results

  • Oversee SI and EMC simulation workflows, including modeling, analysis, and validation of high-speed designs

  • Guide the team in addressing critical issues like reflections, crosstalk, jitter, power integrity, and EMC compliance.

  • Review and approve simulation results, analysis reports, and design recommendations.

  • Drive adoption of advanced simulation techniques and industry-leading tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.

  • Oversee development and application of S-parameter models, time-domain reflectometry (TDR) analysis, and eye diagram evaluations

  • Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate SI considerations early in the design cycle and ensure impedance matching, trace optimization, and clock signal integrity

  • Develop EMC simulation methodologies to predict and mitigate emissions, susceptibility, and interference in product designs.

  • Guide the team in optimizing shielding, grounding, filtering, and decoupling strategies to ensure compliance with global EMC standards (e.g., FCC, CISPR, ISO).

  • Partner with hardware, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure SI and EMC requirements are incorporated throughout the product development lifecycle

  • Establish best practices for SI and EMC simulations, including model generation, validation, and documentation.

  • Research and adopt emerging technologies, materials, and methods to address evolving challenges in SI and EMC.
