Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren on a full-time basis.
The Role
The Robotic Solutions Design Engineer will be responsible for the development and design of robotic material delivery systems across GM plants in North America.
A successful candidate will have an established background in developing high-performance physical systems, strong technical problem-solving ability, excellent project management skills, the ability to effectively communicate with and influence decision-makers at all levels and an internal motivation to deliver results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.
The Solutions Design Engineer is not only responsible for analyzing and optimizing existing Robotic systems performance but combining those learnings with the latest technologies to design new state of the art robotic material handling systems.
What You’ll Do

Invent, design, and implement engineering solutions to complex material flow/transformation and human/machine efficiency problems throughout the supply chain

Manage and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the material delivery system through equipment specification, material flow, process design and site layout

Collaboration with internal and external teams to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short period of time

Simultaneously manage and support multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors

Provide technical guidance for large-scale engineering projects

Evaluate and create physical processing and material handling solutions using modern edge technology, robotics, and data analytics

Identify and analyze key operational and financial metrics as part of program and feature selection to drive smart decisions

Coordinate with systems and operations engineering teams to optimize the efficiency of the material delivery system

Support the 1st deployment of new technology at the designated site

Develops processes for the validation and verification of new technologies

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Industrial or Mechanical), Operations Research, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

5+ years of related experience in design/innovation, research & development, manufacturing/process/industrial engineering
-
3+ years in management of engineering design projects
-
Experience validating performance through simulation tools
-
Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, AutoCAD and commercial off-the-shelf technologies such as Tableau, SQL, etc.

Demonstrated use of analytical skills to solve complex engineering problems
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Master’s degree in engineering
-
Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and systems including robotics
-
Experience working with the designs of complex automated material handling equipment and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.

Capital project management skills
-
Design-in-Safety experience
-
Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
