Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
General Motors is looking for an exceptional candidate to lead the Mechatronic hardware as an Engineering Technical Lead. This role supports the Technical Specialists and Design Release Engineers by providing a solid foundation for engineering safe world class Common Corporate Component solutions across the vehicle. The Engineering Technical Leader owns the technology roadmap, direct interface with the supplier base and purchasing, establishes a clear complexity strategy for components, participates in advanced technology work, drives consistency in peer reviews for all technical specialists, supports field incident investigations, and drives the Prevent Repeat Defects process. The position will be critical to ensure closed loop learning into our documentation and our center of expertise team. The Engineering Technical leader will be responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision for technical specialists to share with the Agile Release Train (ART) to help ensure the system or Solution under development is the best agile plan to exceed our customer’s expectations.
The Engineering Technical Leader will be the global voice for technical expertise to deliver common solutions to meet safety regulations and address technology challenges for mechatronic components. This leader will guide the global team providing processes and enablers to share lessons learned, work with Systems Engineering, Advance Development and Suppliers to help ensure the tools are in place to provide high quality solutions.
This position is within the Mechatronic Hardware and Quality team and works closely with purchasing, cross functional Soft and Services, program teams, electrical architecture teams, and cross functional vehicle sub system teams
What You'll Do:

Leads Technical Specialist meetings and Hardware Meeting

Detailed knowledge of hardware and software interfaces at an architecture level
-
Provide guidance and consultation at product development team meetings
-
Drive CCC strategies for in production components
-
Drive virtualization/validation development
-
Read Across on Program SORs and Sourcing Decisions, BOM picks
-
Support Supplier Development and Qualification
-
Create and Maintain Best Practices and Packaging Criteria – Read across
-
Support advance development, program teams and early packaging discussions
-
Drive Peer Reviews and capture issues in lessons learned and work directly with COE to improve
-
Support robust Global requirements development (SSTS & CTS Templates, etc.) and drive closed loop with the center of enterprise team
-
Drive more alignment with the software and electrical architecture teams
-
Support PRTS Issue Resolution by providing technical leadership for troubleshooting activities
-
Perform/lead due diligence step resolution for Safety Tether PRTS
-
Support Assembly Plant issue resolution and read across
-
Know Current and Past Applications to Support Product Investigations (SFI Process)
-
Review read across for NHTSA Recalls of competitors working with the technical specialists
-
Support process improvement initiatives and be a champion for continuous improvement

Own and drive Technical Specialist meeting and Peer review process

Interface and drive requirements and priority with the Systems Engineering

Review DFMEA, PFMEA, and SFMEA rolldown (read across)

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

BSE, BS in Mechanical, BS in Industrial Engineering, BS in Electrical Engineering, or BS in Computer Engineering or equivalent.

7+ years experience in Hardware Engineering and Mechatronics space.

Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming.
-
High level understanding of hardware design and failure modes in electronic modules.
-
In-depth knowledge of software algorithm design and software architecture.
-
In-depth knowledge of embedded software development, testing and associated tools.
-
Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications.
-
High level knowledge of software verification/validation processes.
-
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
-
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
-
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area.
-
High level of oral and written communication skills.
-
DFMEA training.
-
DFSS Certification.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

MS in Mechanical, MS in Electrical Engineering, or MS in Computer Engineering or equivalent.

15+ years experience in Hardware Engineering and Mechatronics space.

Design and validation requirements development.

Engineering Change Management Experience.

Manufacturing End of Line Test Interaction/Support.
