Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan or Mountain View, CA three times per week, at minimum. 

The Role  

As a  Staff Antenna Simulation and Design Engineer  at GM, you will architect the future of high-fidelity, vehicle-level simulation by designing and leading the strategic roadmap that transforms how RF systems are simulated, tested, and validated. You will serve as the technical cornerstone and mentor for a specialized team of virtualization engineers—setting standards, driving technical excellence, and fostering innovation. Your role includes engineering breakthrough antenna methodologies and advanced receiver/exciter architectures, while defining and cascading virtual requirements across complex hardware domains. From RF front ends to component integration, you will plan and perform subsystem analysis, modeling, testing, and validation to ensure seamless performance. With a relentless focus on innovation, you’ll continuously refine simulation methods and toolchains to stay ahead of evolving technologies, platforms, and product strategies. 

What You'll Do

  • Architect and lead the strategic roadmap for high-fidelity, vehicle-level RF system simulation, testing, and validation. 

  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor to a team of virtualization engineers, setting engineering standards and fostering a culture of innovation. 

  • Design and implement advanced antenna methodologies and novel receiver/exciter architectures. 

  • Define, cascade, and align virtual simulation requirements across diverse and complex hardware domains. 

  • Plan, execute, and analyze RF subsystem modeling, testing, and validation, from RF front ends through to digital integration.

  • Drive continuous improvement of RF simulation methods, tools, and workflows to remain ahead of emerging technologies and product strategies. 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration and performance of RF systems across the vehicle platform. 

  • Manage budgets and planning for both outsourced efforts and in-house vehicle-level simulations.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)  

  • Bachelors in Engineering , Computer Science or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in antenna RF simulation and modeling. 
  • Extensive knowledge of antenna design, electromagnetic (EM) modeling, RF assemblies, and subsystem integration. 
  • Proven history of utilization of virtualization tools to design, refine and correlate to physical tests for the development of antenna components and elements using  EM simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, CST, and ADS  
  • Hands-on experience with RF testing equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, anechoic chambers, and outdoor validation setups. 
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional technical teams and mentoring engineers. 
  • Strong strategic thinking and high-level communication skills, including experience presenting to executives. 
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with internal teams and external partners to bring RF systems to market. 

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)  

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field 
  • Experience creating simulation methodologies or digital twin frameworks at a vehicle level  
  • Familiarity with Agile/SAFe methodologies 
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other test automation tools 
  • Proficient in end-to-end antenna design, implementation, and validation for wireless systems including Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and NFC. 
  • Strong understanding of a wide range of antenna types and RF technologies including PCB antennas, transmission lines, waveguide antennas, and MIMO systems. 
  • Expertise in antenna matching techniques and performance validation through both simulation and physical testing. 

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties: Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.

The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The annual salary range for this role is $168,000 - $258,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential:  An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

Company Vehicle:  Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

Relocation:  This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
