Staff Product Manager, Lighting and Visibility
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Technical/Innovation Center in Mountain View (CA), Milford (MI), or Warren (MI) three times per week, at minimum. This position can be located at any of these 3 locations.
The Software & Services division of General Motors is responsible for defining and delivering the software, electrical hardware, and services that enable and support GM vehicles. From mechatronic infrastructure to OnStar connected services, and infotainment systems to autonomous driving – we are creating complete and compelling vehicle experiences for our customers.

The Role:
As Staff Product Manager for Lighting and Visibility, you will define and execute the technology roadmap and experience strategy for all exterior lighting and visibility products for GM vehicles. This role requires an individual who can oversee everything from how lighting welcomes customers as they approach a vehicle to enhancing the driver’s visibility through advanced technologies such as smart wipers and innovative glass solutions, all while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
The position requires someone who can address complex challenges in the lighting and visibility domain in ways that resonate with our customers and align with our business objectives. Success in this position requires the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, demonstrate principled decision-making, and building consensus across cross-functional teams to deliver best-in-class experiences. We expect you to be proactive, hands-on, and dedicated to enhancing customer safety and satisfaction while driving business success.
What You’ll do:

Own the long-term product vision, setting strategic direction for lighting & visibility across the vehicle portfolio balancing unique needs for different vehicle segments, along with regulatory compliance.

Develop strategies to ensure lighting enhances the ownership experience.

Lead a cross-functional team of stakeholders encompassing Legal, Design, Engineering, Program, and Product Managers to create intuitive customer experiences that meets customer and business needs.

Actively monitor emerging trends, incorporate data, research, and market analysis to inform, define, prioritize, and drive execution of product roadmap that includes task lighting, visibility lighting, and windshield technologies.

Help drive a data-driven culture and establish and monitor key metrics to measure the usefulness and quality of lighting and visibility products in customers hands.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

8+ years working on technology-powered products
-
3+ years of experience managing complex software and hardware products

Proven ability to balance tradeoffs between consumer needs and expectations, legal and regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

Experience developing solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.

Ability to identify key data and metrics required to make decisions and implications of their movement.

Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to all stakeholders.

Must be willing to travel to Michigan quarterly if located in Mountain View.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

Advanced educational background (MBA, Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, etc.).

3+ years of Product Management experience

3+ years of Embedded Software and Controls experience

Experience with automotive lighting

Strong understanding of major automotive systems and subsystems

Strong understanding of the product development process and program execution deliverables

Industry knowledge and expertise of Lighting and Visibility Controls (state of the industry and future tech/etc.)
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is $168,000 to $258,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
