Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Flint Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role:

The Electrical Diagnostician is a key position to support the plant in achieving electrical first-time quality (EFTQ) glidepath during vehicle program launch. The primary responsibility is supporting electrical end of line (EOL) repair process. This role will collect data and information to help resolve the ongoing issues impacting EFTQ during launch. There are currently 2 openings for this position one will be on 2nd shift, and one will be on 3rd shift.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Be a member of the plant’s Electrical Team - an integrated, technical organization consisting of members from Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality and Product Development organizations focused on problem solving the plant’s top external and internal quality problems.

  • Off shift voice for the Electrical Team, Support all functions on (the off shift) and feed forward issues to the whole team.

  • Lead electrical troubleshooting efforts for the launch team, focusing on top-hitting EFTQ issues, using Red X statistical problem solving and strategy-based diagnostics.

  • Create actionable items from electrical failures to enable issue documentation and follow up. Leads corrective action plans.

  • Complete required training at various sites around GM and suppliers.

  • Lead disconnect workshop during launch to develop database for repair faults (knowledge-based repair systems) in GSIP.

  • Support Final Process Repairmen regarding training, troubleshooting vehicle issues, repair root cause entry into GSIP, Service Information schematic and other issues, Plant repair diagnostic tool (GDS2/MDI), and reporting systems.

  • Coordinate training on new model features for repairmen on service diagnostic tools via Vertex or applicable company.

  • Conduct training of vehicle electrical systems for Team Leaders so they can support their Team Members.

  • Participate in The GM Automotive Manufacturing Electrical College, or AMEC (an immersive training program that provides participants the opportunity to train in both classroom and hands-on settings for future employment on a Launch Electrical Team).

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Experience with automotive electrical sub-systems.

  • Background in working on vehicle electrical systems.

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, particularly to translate highly complex technical issues to non-technical people.

  • Knowledge of vehicle communication systems such as CAN, LIN and Ethernet.

  • MUST have the ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift.

  • Ability to work over-time as needed.

  • Ability to travel within the USA less than 10% of the time.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 3+ years of experience with automotive electrical sub-systems.

  • ASE certification or similar.

  • Thorough working knowledge of GMS as well supporting BIQ4 Deliverables.

  • Experience in VSPY, DPS, SDS and EoLT systems.

  • Knowledge of assembly plant systems such as GSIP, GEPICS, MERS and PRTS.

  • Launch experience.
