We’re hiring people who want to solve some of today’s most complex engineering challenges and make a positive impact. Our Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) must navigate some of the most challenging and unpredictable driving environments.

The ADAS Hardware Lead DRE role is for a senior staff member with deep knowledge of high-performance multi-processor system design with a focus on: System-on-Chip (SoC) design and workload capabilities, SoC integration within module designs, sensor fusion, Functionality Safety (FuSa), video distribution and control, Ethernet subsystems, and scalable design strategy.

The rapid growth of ADAS capability in our vehicles will require a significant contribution from a skilled and experienced technical expert with a broad background in many diverse technologies. Our ADAS HW engineering projects will best suit an individual who is comfortable performing in a high-paced technology environment where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. This individual will be instrumental in shaping technical design direction within the ADAS compute portfolio in support of our corporate vision: Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.


  • Single point of contact for technical design direction

  • Provide technical work direction to an engineering group with specific engineering objectives.

  • Make technical design direction decisions based on multiple design implementation strategies.

  • Drive alignment between Compute Platform and Silicon roadmaps to maximize design efficiency and streamlining bring-up activity between Silicon suppliers, tier1 suppliers, and tier2 suppliers.

  • Adhere to design processes, ensuring engineering best practices, reviewing schematics and PCB layouts to ensure design for test and manufacturability.

  • Lead technical feasibility studies for new ADAS features implementation.

  • Update architecture and platform requirements based on multiple subsystems with inputs from cross-functional teams in GM.

  • Meet with industry silicon vendors regularly to review silicon roadmaps and timing to ensure component availability.

  • Drive synergies between platform trim levels to optimize for design and validation reusability and cost.

  • Provide technical support to other departments, as well as troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving issues.

  • Video distribution and control- Protecting design now for future features and bandwidth requirements. Includes meeting with Serializer/De-serializer (SERDES) vendors to understand design risks and opportunities.

  • Integrate FuSa safety features into design early. Leads detailed discussions with Silicon vendors, Tier suppliers, GM FuSa team.

  • Review Silicon vendor, Ethernet vendor, and SERDES vendor design guidelines to drive compute platform design accordingly.

  • Drive all design simulations and evaluate simulation environments especially in multi-system and multi-PCB environments.

  • Finalize HW-SW co-design, and system development strategy and instrumented parts design requirements.

  • Travel as required (domestic & international) to support issue resolution and supplier assessment, development and approvals.

Additional Description


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a major in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, etc.)

  • 4+ years of high-speed design

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of multiprocessor compute systems’ architecture and design

  • Exhibiting leadership behaviors by being approachable, maintaining composure, managing conflict, listening, team building, etc. Collaborating/networking with interfacing modules

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

  • Ability to periodically work non-standard hours to collaborate with overseas suppliers

  • Willingness to periodically work onsite at GM Michigan sites as needed

Desired Skills

  • Master of Science Degree in a major in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, etc.)

  • 10 years of experience in compute design and release from to concept to market, high speed design.

  • 5+ years in Silicon Design

  • Previous experience in ADAS/AV industry

  • Experience leading technical teams

  • Experience in designing Digital and Analog/Mixed signal circuits with multicore-SOC’s, Ethernet Switches, PCIe Switches, DDR4, serial flash, NAND flash, etc.

  • Experience with high speed interface standards: PCIe Gen3, SGMII, RGMII, Gigabit Ethernet
