Advanced V2X Charging Systems Application Engineer

Description

An Advanced V2X Charging System Application Engineer is responsible for the definition and documentation of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, and testing of V2X charging systems (X = Home, Building, Grid, Load, Vehicle). You'll also be ensuring successful application of the charging system, considering hardware, controls, calibration, software, and overall integration.

This Role Offers the Following Work Appropriately Strategy:     Hybrid

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3x per week.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and documentation of initial component and subsystem requirements for V2X charging systems
  • Responsible for deriving and developing component requirements to meet charging system requirements using systems engineering, standard work and analysis / simulation including competitive assessments
  • Responsible for the documentation of component requirements based on flow down of requirements from Propulsion System Technical Specs (P-STS), vehicle technical specifications (VTS), and applicable regulations relating to home/grid/load/vehicle charging
  • Responsible for developing V2X charging components to meet key performance and cost targets by working collaboratively with Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Modeling, Analysis, Cost Engineering, Planning, and Program teams
  • Ensure analytical models, initial component designs, and controls have been developed with high fidelity through the BA phase for a successful hand-off at PPDR to Execution and Program teams
  • Support development of the system level DFMEA led by Propulsion / Charging System Architect collaborating with key collaborators from System Engineering teams, Safety, and Controls
  • Lead advanced technology development and testing ATW work in V2X charging systems as needed
  • Actively pursue cost reduction, efficiency, and power density improvement through advanced projects on V2X charging systems
  • Establish technology leadership and manage relationships with industry technical experts, key university labs, and national laboratories

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Understanding of power electronics theory and principles
  • Understanding of design, development, and testing of power converters / chargers
  • Understanding of electrified vehicle system and integration
  • High level of technical problem-solving and experience to address vehicle level issues
  • High level of project management skills and the ability to influence others
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with domestic and international business partners
  • Design, development, validation or release experience
  • Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with overseas suppliers
  • Ability to create and present information to leadership, peers, customers, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner
  • Available to travel to support supplier engagement and conferences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of charging systems or power electronics experience
  • DFSS Certification
  • Fluency in using commercial tools for modeling and simulation of power electronics and charging systems
  • Understanding of applicable electric utility standards and regulations
  • Experience with vehicle to load / vehicle / grid / residential / commercial (V2X) charging systems
  • Familiarity with residential / commercial electric power energy systems
  • M.S. or Ph.D. Degree with specialization in electrification
