AVD Electrical Sub System Architect

Description

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.  This position requires an employee to be onsite monthly.

Responsibilities include:

- Provide design direction to 3D/UG Designers regarding the components you are required to package

- Ensure design solutions are feasible and meet all vehicle & component design criteria (including Environmental, Crashworthiness, Manufacturing, Serviceability, etc.)

- Craft concepts and develop proposals to resolve issues (including utilizing techniques to drive data-driven decisions - DFSS, competitive benchmarking, etc.)

- Develop expertise in the commodity area you are assigned (application of Best Practices, ICDm, etc.)

- Develop close alignment with the Product Execution team you will be supporting

- Understands the Global Vehicle Development Process.
- Stays ahead of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility.
- Shares lessons learned with team members.

In your role, you will be responsible for packaging electrical and/or infotainment components in early development of vehicle programs.  Requires command level knowledge of your components, critical criteria, vehicle environment and a strong voice to ensure robust design execution.

Required Skills / Experience / Education:

- Completed Bachelor of Science in STEM field required (or equivalent); Masters preferred

- 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred

- Experience with vehicle/component packaging integration

- Understand assembly plant manufacturing processes

- Ability to use VIS Mockup tool

- Familiar with electrical schematics & electrical architecture plan views

- Understand engineering processes related to program timing and content

- Proactive / results driven individual with high levels of initiative and leadership capability.

- Strong track record of solving complex problems and outlining the strategy by which others can solve a problem

- High level of oral and written communication skills

- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and negotiate effectively with others to meet mutual goals

- Be comfortable and willing to make decisions and assume the risk with those decisions.

- Needs to be open minded, optimistic, approachable, easy to work with and willing to mentor individuals within their own area and other organizations

- Proven leadership skills which translate to high degree of inner self confidence and ability to motivate others

- Exceptional cross-functional communication skills of complex issues to enable

world class designs, packaging efficiency and vehicle integration, within and across the organization

- Demonstrated ability of “dealing with ambiguity” to enable timely decision making

- Ability to manage a multitude of assignments with high levels of composure and

effective implementation

- DFSS Blackbelt

-Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
