The Dimensional System Engineer is involved from the early phases of a program, working to comprehend risk, understand manufacturing process enablers, evolve designs, and develop/communicate a dimensional strategy that will meet program requirements.
The work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment.
In this role you’ll be responsible for defining and documenting datum and locator schemes at the part and sub-assembly level, running both 1D and 3D tolerance stacks, using statistical data to make design improvement recommendations, and tracking implementation of these recommendations into the designs to ensure the product conforms to the build objectives. You will also be responsible for working with the manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure that not only is the design optimized, but also the method of manufacture and assembly align with the design requirements. You will be responsible for defining drawing standards and ensuring consistency in how GD&T is used within all teams across the product. You will be responsible for evaluating measurement data, and based on this data, make recommendations to the manufacturing team on which changes to make to best meet the build objectives.
Execute and support Virtual Analysis of product design and manufacturing processes to predict vehicle build variation
Lead/support Advanced Vehicle Development of Program specific GD&T
Develop and deploy global dimensional engineering methods, processes, standards, and training
Responsible to identify and drive dimensional strategies and tolerance allocations to achieve Dimensional Technical Specifications (DTS/VTS) requirements
Identify and define the initial dimensional requirements for purchased components and assemblies
Documentation of In-Plant Assembly Dimensional Requirements to support DTS and functional interfaces (Control Datasets/Drawings)
Support Vehicle Builds and Issue resolution, as required
Creation of GD&T to communicate Dimensional Strategies
Provide day to day technical direction to others on the team (PE, ME, Contract Manufacturer)
BS in Engineering (Masters preferred)
Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Knowledge of metal and plastic mfg capabilities.

Unigraphics (UG)/NX Preferred
Teamcenter Visualization Mock-Up Preferred
DFSS Black Belt Certification Preferred
Advanced Vehicle Development Experience
Experience in managing multiple development programs with internal engineering groups and external technology development partners and vendors
Comfort with ambiguity, working independently and self-motivation to drive towards results
Ability to work comfortably and effectively with cross functional team
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
