Buyer/Sr. Buyer - Chassis Body Structures

The Global Purchasing and Supply Chain team is seeking motivated Buyers to support the next generation of industry-leading and complex systems within our Chassis Body Structures Team.

You will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services.  Responsible for actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers or internal stakeholders.  The work is of complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and a high level of independent judgment. This role requires an experienced or non-experienced buyer to drive a multi-functional team including collaboration.

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • Managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance

  • Demonstrating competence in negotiating skills

  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills

  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be somewhat complex

  • Developing organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

  • Utilizing software such as SAP and/or MRP Systems


Additional Description

Required Experiences and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration, or other related areas

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant purchasing or supply chain experience

  • Developing Contracts / Agreements

  • Project Execution

  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams

  • Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment

Preferred Critical Skills:

  • Automotive industry experience

  • Knowledge of procurement software

  • Knowledge of materials management

  • Capable of interpreting market data

  • Proven knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes

  • Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed

  • Ability to travel at least 5% of time, including international travel
