Controls Engineer


Responsible for supporting activities that may include:

-  SORs and project management for tools, stations or specific technologies.

Typically part of a larger effort or project

-  manufacturing process definition

-  sequence of operations

-  human factors consideration

-  efficient material flow

-  design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts

-  providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources

Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.

C ontrols  Engineer at Factory Zero

Job Description:  

You will be responsible for smooth functioning of all manufacturing equipment and manufacturing support systems. This work requires the ability to troubleshoot, maintain and repair activities of plant equipment; the ability to make decisions based on established tools, applications, and procedures responsible for managing and executing plant launches and projects; and a technical knowledge to utilize independent judgment within the limits of General Motors Global Manufacturing System, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).  


  • In this role your responsibilities will require technical knowledge for decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies, and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolve. 

  • The Controls engineer will be able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from the Lead Controls Engineer and other leadership.  

  • Skilled in PLC, HMI, Robot, Weld, Torque and Test control systems; Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) like Production Monitoring, Routing & Tracking and Error Proofing, Equipment, tooling, facilities, and alternatives. 

  • Knowledgeable in sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines, and facilities necessary for supporting production. Work is performed in an assembly plant where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment. 

Additional responsibilities:  

  • You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. You will be required to use your independent discernment. 

  • Support Continuous Improvement activities. 


Basic Require ments :  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.  

  • Experience in PLC Programming. 

  • Experience in Manufacturing systems. 

  • Proficient knowledge in Rockwell PLCs, Siemens HMIs, Fanuc Robots, AGVs. 

  • Working knowledge of process equipment operations, sequence, error proofing and diagnostics capabilities. 

  • Knowledge of drives/motion control. 

  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and some weekends.  

Preferred Requirements:  

  • At least 2 years of experience in PLC Programming  

  • At least 2 years of experience in Manufacturing systems  

  • Knowledge of vision systems and bar code scanners (Matrox, Cognex, Keyence, SICK, Honeywell). 

  • Knowledge of Ethernet networks (IECN). 

  • Experience with Diagnosis process equipment failures. 

  • Knowledge of Auto Cad and or Electrical drawings.  

  • Knowledge of automated welding and adhesive/sealing dispense. 

  • Knowledge in computing languages like VB, C+, .Net.
