Design Assistant Program Manager


GM Design is seeking an Assistant Program Manager who will represent Design in Engineering meetings, ensure that our vehicles have great craftsmanship, quality, usability, and an engaged customer experience. The successful candidate is highly skilled at program management, creative problem solving, and has a passion for getting the details right to deliver great products.

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility 3 to 5 days a week depending on the stage of the program.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the voice of Design in Engineering meetings (PET, VAPIR, etc)
  • Conducts Program Operations Meetings (POps) to facilitate issue resolution
  • Program Management capability including program timing, issue escalation, change requests.
  • Understanding the GVDP and the specific Design milestones and work processes
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships between Vehicle Program teams, Advanced Vehicle Development, Design Staff, Engineering, and Manufacturing organizations.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with global and regional Design colleagues.
  • Single Point of Contact to all functional organizations for the program(s) that are supported within Design.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organizations and facilitate Exec Chief Engineer (ECE) reviews along with VP of Design reviews as needed.
  • Ability to bring Design, Engineering and Manufacturing together to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with other Design Brands, support organizations, and the shops
  • Support everyday studio needs in collaboration with the Studio Engineering & Sculpting Teams

Additional Description


  • Bachelor’s Degree qualifications in design, business, engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience supporting design or engineering functions is preferred
  • Experience or background working with global partners and suppliers
  • Ability to maintain good organization and meet deadlines among many inputs and changing feature content.
  • Ability to think outside-the-box in high pressure situations
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
  • A high level of project management skills
