Design Release Engineer - Hybrid Electric Drive Unit

Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role may require them to work at a GM facility once a week on average.

Position : Release Engineer Gears/Shafts & Power Transfer for GFE2 HEV Drive Unit

  • Authors Statement of Requirements for electric Drive Units.

  • Generates technical solutions for GFE2 HEV Drive unit.

  • Performs complex design analysis.

  • Develops engineering designs (including subsystems).

  • Authors and follows through on ECR (Engineering Change Request).

  • Implements engineering changes.

  • Specifies and balances system requirements.

  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs for Gears/Shaft components in GFE2.

  • Releases parts and subsystems for prototype or production.

  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers.

  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.

  • Travel as required to supplier facilities and vehicle assembly plants.

  • Support GMs technical expert in the development of component technical specifications.

  • Defines interface control document requirements for component parts, negotiates and reaches agreement with interfacing components, and works with others to resolve issues.

  • Performs appropriate component level studies/alternatives, and recommends program direction based on cost, mass, timing, design for assembly, variation and other program imperatives.

  • Develops/completes math model in preparation for design completion at required program phases.

  • Responsible for ensuring complete validation, including supporting of component validation plan by Component Validation Engineers.

  • Supports engineering activities with other functions (e.g. suppliers, suppliers quality, purchasing) to ensure delivery of product meeting requirements and imperatives.

  • Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies using statistical problem solving and quality control methods, including support of production launch (Problem Resolution and Tracking System) .

  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as Manufacturing, Powertrain, Electrical, Crashworthiness.


Additional Description

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study.

  • 5 years engineering experience in Driveline or Powertrain components/assemblies.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in product release.

  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.

  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area

  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area.

  • Proficient in working in Vis Mock up/Teamcenter.

Desired Skills:  

  • DFSS Green Belt Certification

  • Experience with GM’s release systems
