Role Summary

GM has developed a new software-defined vehicle platform, Ultifi, which is designed to use over-the-air updating capabilities to support connected services and software-driven features in both electric and internal combustion vehicles.

The Global Director of the Ultifi Apps and Cloud Services , will lead an organization responsible for architecting, developing, testing and maintaining these services. This role will provide thoughtful leadership, foster innovation, facilitate communication, and inspire passion into this organization.

This Director will focus on the delivery of the Ultifi Apps and Cloud Services with speed and quality, through deploying state-of-the art methods, tools and processes with focus on clean software architecture and run time efficiency. While working within an integrated engineering framework, this leader will work globally with other transformational engineers to deliver products with outstanding speed and superior quality. This Director will drive continuous integration and delivery, automation and virtualization for software development while shortening product lifecycles. They should possess a sense of urgency and a willingness to take on special assignments as they arise. This person must have a strong team orientation, drive to win and lead with positive demonstrated behaviors.

The role reports to the Executive Director, Ultifi Platform, Application & Services and Framework.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with Customer Experience and Product Engineering teams to articulate and execute upon an agile roadmap delivery model for Ultifi Vehicle Apps and V2X, IoT, Cloud, and Edge Services

  • Lead all aspects of the Ultifi Apps and Services lifecycle, including strategy, roadmaps, monetization, backlog grooming, sprint-planning, QA, validation, and release management

  • Stay apprised of industry trends and shifts in the competitive landscape; incorporate relevant products from proof of concepts to production GM App Stores, Edge and Cloud environments

  • Understand the regulatory, legal and security context to maintain compliance and handle risk

  • Establish Vehicle to Edge and Cloud network connectivity with software defined networks, across global regions for Ultifi Apps and Services

  • Develop workload offloading capabilities across global regions from the vehicle to Edge and Cloud

  • Productionize highly available Ultifi Apps and Services with monitoring, release, and incident management systems

  • Lead multi-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of SDK/Developer portals for internal and third-party development teams

  • Define and analyze metrics that provide insight into the success of our products and apply these metrics effectively for key product decisions

  • Establish an integrated and automated CI/CD build, test, deploy and rollback model

  • Mentor team members into future technology leaders and establish a succession plan within your team

Additional Description


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience with experience in application development and the cloud

  • Demonstrated success at leading and developing a team of managers, technical specialist and engineer

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite or travel to an onsite location as needed.
