Electric Vehicle Charging & EVSE Technical Specialist

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1 day per week.

The Electric Vehicle Charging and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Technical Specialist (TS) is the expert that is responsible for establishing, communicating, and assuring compliance to the global Design/Bill of Material/Process (BOD/BOM/BOP) guidelines and global market regional regulations for Charging & EVSE components.  This role will focus on off-vehicle charging hardware including wall mount charge stations, portable charge cords, and bi-directional charge stations.

This position will focus on execution of Charging & EVSE components within the Product Management Team (PMT).  The role will also be responsible for driving engineering excellence and standard work for Charging & EVSE components across the program portfolio.

This position requires sound technical knowledge and expertise related to the functional area of responsibility. You will need prior experience and/or knowledge of mechanical, electrical,  instrumentation, testing/driving, and manufacturing/production. The TS Translates business objectives to actionable work for the work group while leading new processes and methods in line with departmental goals.

This job is based in General Motor’s Warren Technical Center.  The General Motors Technical Center has been named a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. The campus opened in 1956 and houses the GM vehicle engineering center, design center, research and manufacturing engineering.  It is the workplace of over 18,000 employees on a 1.1 square-mile campus.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support to design responsible and development/validation engineers.

  • Provide guidance on global regulatory compliance and regional electrical infrastructure requirements.

  • Develop global Bill of Design (BOD) and Bill of Material (BOM) documents and integrate with Bill of Process (BOP) including lessons learned feedback and program deviation evaluations.

  • Participate as a team member in core technical forums (including PMTs) and component technical reviews on new designs/major redesigns as technical expert to ensure success, and monitor global BOD/BOM/BOP compatibility.

  • Facilitate the creation/maintenance of new/applicable General Motor Worldwide (GMW) engineering standards.

  • Develop Analysis, Development, and Validation (A/D/V) requirements along with procedures, and execution RASIC.

  • Provides technical support to manufacturing engineering and production facilities.

  • Support global supplier technical evaluation and localization process.

  • Develop strategies for Corporate Common Components (CCC).

  • Responsible for Technically Approved Supplier List (TASL) for Charging & EVSE components.

  • Coordinate with supply base & internal marketing/voice of customer to define technology roadmap.

  • Create/Maintain Templates for: Statement of Requirement (SOR), component DFMEA, Component Readiness Valve (CRV).

  • Facilitate technical read across/due diligence items for safety related Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) issues.

  • HW Subject Matter Expert to support software, calibration, and integration issues.


Additional Description

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • Minimum five years’ experience working with electrical components

  • Proficient computer skills including analyzing data, creating presentations

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex

  • Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to lead numerous projects

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills. Must be able to work/collaborate effectively with both local teams, international team members and suppliers.

  • Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports

  • Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Familiarity with CAD or Vis Mockup.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • 8+ Years’ industry experience with focus on electric vehicle charging, EVSE, and infrastructure

  • High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands on work experience

  • Design for Six Sigma Certification

  • Experience with Unigraphics NX

  • Experience with manufacturing methods such as fixturing, KCDS, etc.

  • Experience using 1D and 3D thermal CAE models

  • Experience with TASL or Supplier Technical Reviews

  • Experience with Design of Experiments
