Electrification Controller DRE (VMEC)


The Role

GM is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation! The VICM (Vehicle Integration Control Module) Controller DRE (Design Release Engineer) role is a blend of program management and technical leadership and will be the single-point contact between Propulsion and the supplier.

As the VICM Controller DRE, you will lead in gathering, negotiating, updating, and documenting controller requirements for the assigned product program and ensure the controller meets requirements and is properly validated. You will participate in highly complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions. You will also be responsible for leading and developing strategic solutions to achieve business initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own/Release the Hardware for development & production
  • Own the controller requirements and all changes during development
  • Negotiate changes from supplier, Electrical Architecture, Algorithm, and Software Engineers and update controller requirements document
  • Support cost savings initiatives
  • Facilitate requirements and design reviews with suppliers, algorithm, and software groups
  • Gather all necessary documents for purchasing process and provide technical expertise during purchasing sourcing process
  • Gather controller requirements from Electrical Architecture, Packaging, Electrical Mechanization, Product Owner, CSIE, Algorithm, and Software Engineers
  • Organize and lead key development meetings (PDT, design reviews, DFMEAs)
  • Review and approve controller validation plans-Worst Case Analysis, Bench (Design Demo), Design and Process Validation
  • Build and publish controller specific controller verification requirements
  • Manage and Track Supplier Development Progress
  • Keep supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones (design freeze, gate reviews for prototype levels, validation start and complete dates)
  • Ensure hardware prototypes are validated and available for key vehicle build events (IVER, APPV, PPV, etc.)
  • Support closure of controller related Problem Resolution & Tracking System (PRTS)
  • Release Base Model Part Number (hardware) and PPAP approval
  • Report status of key hardware development progress to management
  • Lead/participate in issue resolution for the controller
  • Controller warranty analysis, issue resolution, parts restriction and report updates as required to Team leadership.
  • Monitor warranty via Tri-Charts
  • Parts Restrictions
  • Understand Pareto Charts & Evaluate Controller Returns
  • Monitor design changes in production (using Change Notices or Product Change Evaluations)
  • Controller assembly plant visits

Required Skills / Experience

  • BS in Engineering including Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or Software
  • 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience
  • Experience with Electromechanical design
  • Experience with engineering methodologies including DFMEA and Worst Case Analysis
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners including global teams
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus when needed
  • DFSS Green Belt
  • Automotive development experience
  • Excellent knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process
  • Experience with various warranty systems such as GART, QIS2, AQA, SAS EG, Tracker GART etc.

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience with at least 2 years of working with automotive electronic modules / systems
  • Design Release experience
  • Electrification experience
  • Power BI and Tableau experience
  • Experience with Quality, Software, Launch
  • Black Belt
