Engine Calibration - Drive Quality


Our team is seeking a driven individual for a Drive Quality Calibration Engineer position in GM's Global Engine Calibration group at the Milford Proving Grounds! The selected candidate will work on GM’s engine programs and be responsible to develop, validate, communicate, and document Drive Quality for an Engine calibration development team.

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as appropriate.

Our team is seeking an ambitious individual for a Drive Quality Calibration Engineer position in GM's Global Engine Calibration group at the Milford Proving Grounds! The selected candidate will work on GM’s engine programs and be responsible to develop, validate, communicate, and document Drive Quality for an Engine calibration development team!

Candidates should possess specific calibration experience in a complex technology area, along with demonstrated, planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills. Drive Quality Calibration Engineers are expected to work with other groups and assist in the resolution of system/vehicle-level performance issues.


  • Documented status of DQ metrics i.e. “Big X”

  • ARM metrics

  • Pedal maps, trans pattern, TCC scheduling, recommendations

  • Documented status:  Ride events, CE reviews, Post-VPI PQRR reviews.

  • Summarize differences between Analysis predictions and vehicle measurements

  • Provide complete documentation for validation tests to VPM

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Resides within Engine DCV, but maintains a Powercube focus

  • Work with engine, transmission, and hybrid groups to develop drive quality

  • Develop to ARM metrics

  • Define comprehensive DQ metrics, including “4 corners”

  • Ensure Milestone Cals meet DQ objectives

  • Engagement of Lead Cal Engineers and Cal Specialists

  • Ensure DQ execution is aligned with expected (analysis) results

  • Understand / rationalize / resolve differences

  • Feedback to analysis

  • Complete all DQ validation tasks assigned to PT

  • Participate in planning for MVBns Drive Quality verification

  • Support Ride Events as required

  • Participate in Global DQ Center of Expertise (COE) meetings

  • Support Lead Cal Engineer at EPIT / VPIT meetings

  • Represent “Voice of DQ”

  • Benchmarking and Target setting for GPS-owned VTS paragraphs

  • Continuous improvement of VTS specs

  • Support PT Analysis engineers as they represent “Voice of Calibration” to the Advanced-EPITs

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering degree

  • Minimum 5 years of automotive or related industry experience

  • Minimum of 3 years calibration experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of complex system functions (i.e. engine, transmission, electric propulsion), specifically controls and related vehicle performance interactions. 

  • High level of analytical ability for unusual and difficult problems    

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects.

  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.

  • Experience with INCA/ETAS/CRETA/Serial Data Suite and other data acquisition calibration tools. 

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

  • A valid driver’s license is required and ability to operate and subjectively evaluate performance of test vehicles.

  • Ability to travel as needed (10% to 15%)

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering 

  • 4 years of calibration experience                 

  • Cross-sector experience preferred (Algorithm, Hardware Systems Development, DRE, etc.)

  • Gas Engine Calibration experience

The determination by HR and the Hiring Manager as to whether an offer will be lateral or promotional will be based on a candidate's relevant experience and whether the role will amount to a significant increase in level of responsibility.
